Best Bogner for lead

I find fast alternate picking runs are by far easier to play on my Uber Rev 2 , over every amp I've ever owned (including Boogie Mark II C+, Wizards, etc.)
The actual lead tone is good but dark for my tastes, but it's been hard to part with the amp because of the ease with which I can play more technical picking runs through it.
Is there another Bogner (or other amp) that would fill this void if I was to sell the Uber?

Adjust your Eq for more upper mids and you should be fine. It is really hard to beat the Rev2. The way it compresses is probably the reason you like so much, and it's hard to find that in other amps. I would experiment with tubes and see what you come up with before letting it go.

I have the mids dimed, lol.
I really like the feel, the tone is not quite what I want.
I suppose I could try tube swaps, etc. but that seems complicated and expensive, I wouldn't know where to start. I have changed the tubes in it before, the Uber still retained its basic character.

I was wondering if there was another Bogner that may have that same compression and tone that I want right out of the box that I could try to find to try out.

I didn't think the Uber was known for its lead tones, but I was thinking perhaps some players flock to some of the other Bogners for their lead tones?

Have you thought about using a eq pedal in the loop or out front?

I've considered it, but wouldn't know where to start. Any pedal I've tried in the front seems to make the highs too harsh, I lose some of that smoothness. Any recommendations on a good eq pedal?

I run this combination:
v1 Tung-sol 12AX7 re-issue
v2 Shuguang 12AX7 9th gen
v3 Shuguang 12AX7 9th gen
v4 JJ EC803S
v5 Shuguang 12AX7 9th gen - balanced
v6 Shuguang 12AX7 9th gen - balanced

The Tung-sol RI and JJ ECC803S really open up the clean channel.

I tried all kinds of combination of pre amp tubes. I found the Tung Sol RI and the JJ ECC803 really opened up the clean channel, gave it a richer tone. I even swapped them with each other, but nothing touched how they sounded in this order. The gain channel sounded best with the Chinese tubes to me. For the loop and phase inverter the Chinese tubes are fine. I just went with balanced, although not needed, because they didn't cost that much more. The stock ARS tubes are relabeled JJ EL34 tubes. This set-up works great for me.

Pre amp tubes are cheap compared to buying another amp.

Not sure if you know this, but the Presence knob is the key to the amp's character. Turn it up if you leads sound thin or scooped.

Thank you for your time and response.

I played it with presence and mids dimed today, I mean it's a great lead sound but doesn't have the screaming/piercing quality of some of the classic solo sounds, and doesn't quite have the harmonics I like. I have other amps that CAN do that, but they're too sharp, they don't have the compression/squishy/smoothness of the Uber I need for shred.

I need an amp that can do both. I may revisit the Herbert, unless there's something better out there that does what I want.

I've spent so many years searching for the perfect rhythm tone (see my sig, also gives me the best clean) that I haven't really looked into a lead tone at all, which would be the only reason I would need the Uber or another amp at this point.

I have someone interested in the Uber now, so I thought now is as good a time as any to try to find my end-all lead tone.

Another thought, what cab/speakers are you running and what condition are they in?

Most of the time an eq out front is going to boost the front end and add gain. In the loop it will be much easier to control the actually eq curve with out adding gain. MXR 10 band is a good starting point, you can find them cheap on evilbay, 60-80 bucks used. On the spendy end Empress ParaEq is one of the best. I use a Suhr Koko boost, it's really not a traditional eq but it works for me. The regular "Boost" side adds a little bit of brightness while the "Mid" side gives you that honky mid range cut.

Yup, XTC is an easy amp to play.
I would test drive either a 101B or a 20th XTC.

+10000

That amp may not be the best for heavy rhythms, but it plays itself on leads!!

This

Just put the EQ in the effects loop and twist knobs. Not that tricky. Can really work well.

Hey there,
If you willing to sell your bogner rev2 I will be interested.
please let me know.
Thanks

+1

The Goldfinger 90 has a really, really great feel too. Fast alternate picking flutters along smoothly through the Goldfinger 90. The 101B is my favorite because it has what I would call a special kind of punch. It's hard to describe but every note you hit has a definitive punch behind it. I almost want to say it's like a low mid thump. I haven't had much experience with the Uberschall Rev 1, but I owned a Rev B and would say that it has the kind of character that you describe. I miss my Rev B.

There's also the Shiva 20th with KT88's. If you get the 20th with EL34's, it's chewier and feels almost as if your pick is wrestling with the strings a bit. With KT88's, it feels like you're cheating. It's a bit stiffe, but alternate picking and sweep picking just roll off your fingers effortlessly and with a lot of clarity.
