Best cable wire for making my own

I'm thinking that making my own cables would be the most economical.
I've seen some kits, but don't know which ones are good.
Yet, I'm thinking that sourcing some good bulk cable and connectors would be the most economical.
I'm very handy with soldering, so nor worries there.

What are some good cable wire and connectors that have worked for you?
 
I like low capacitance cables so the best sounding for the money that ive found is the Gepco X band and I use g&h plugs. Check out the capacitance at 21pf/ft! What cable are you using now?
 
Sheeit. As far as speaker cables go, I used 14 gauge Monster wire from Wally World from the car audio section lol... I bought some Swithcraft Jacks, and I was in buisness. The best cab cables I ever owned.

For instrument cable, I've been running the same PLanet Waves cable for like 8-9 years. I think I bought 30 feet. When I get a short, I cut it, and stuff the end into the solderless jack. Done. I think I'm down to like 20 feet. Lol

That's where I bought my cable material from, It was the cheapest place I could find overall for all the stuff I needed (cable and connectors, Techflex) and after making my own out of that same Mogami cable and neutrik connectors the reduction in noise from my old mixmatched cables was night and day.
 
For a pedal board, I'm using the Evidence Audio monorail stuff with their solder-less connectors.
I use both Mogami and Evidence stuff for speakers and main guitar cables with neutrik ends.
Canare makes some good stuff as well for cable.

They have all worked perfectly for me and no issues.

The Canare cable looks really good.
But the Redco TGS-HD cable looks as good and a bit better as it's got an extra conductive shield.
Same gauge conductor and shield, coverage is about the same at 92% Canara and 93% Redco.

Redco is only $.65 per ft. compared to $.84 for Canare.
Anyone try the Redco TGS-HD compared to Canare GS-6?

Right now I'm using a mish-mash of cabling.
A Fender braided cable from the effects send to amp in.
A nice Peavey cable from the guitar to the input of the pedal chain, with standard inexpensive interconnects between pedals.
Same inexpensive cables for the effects going to the effect loop send and return.

For the guitar to pedal chain in cable I want the guitar end plug to be a "silent" type.
The Peavey guitar cable I have has a "silent" plug on one end and it works great.
I can unplug my guitar and it cuts the cable off, no noises at all with everything turned on.
Plug in a different guitar, all silent until the plug is inserted and the cable turns on.
LOVE those plugs. Redco lists a silent plug Neutrik NP2X-AU-SILENT/$8.47.
It's red, but I think I've seen them in black as well from a different vendor.
I only need 1 on the guitar side of that cable.

For amp to cab I've got a very nice 12 gauge with very solid high quality 1/4" plugs. It's short at 2-3ft.
I'm good on that connection, but I want to put in a better 1/4" female input on the cab.
And from that input I'm planning on running 12 gauge to the speakers inside the cab, just to have the same gauge wire from amp to speakers.

Overall, the wiring is decent, not much noise at all. But I need to run the all the signal cables differently to keep them as far apart as I can from the power supply and it's feeds to the pedals. I need to drill the pedal board so I can run the power wires under the pedal board and mount the PS under the board as well. The PS is a Voodo Lab 6 out, a nice PS.
 
I used the Canare GS-6 with great results. Also used alot of proco cable 90% shield on the cables I have made. I generally run into a pedalboard with a buffer or two, so I don't generally hear what others do in regards to one cable versus another.

I use basic 60/40 rosin core.

But, I am thinking of splurging and getting a silver solder.
On partsexpress.com they have a 4% silver 96% tin solder that's not too highly priced.
1/8lb for $44, something like 50ft, a lot more than I'll need. :)
It's got a decent 356F melting point compared to another one they sell at 422F.

Anyone use this or another silver solder with good results and easy to work with?

I have worked with the silver solder you can purchase at parts express. Not sure which exact one, but it was easy to work with. Melted and flowed easier than your standard solder. As far as sound, didn't really notice a difference, even though I wanted too.
 
Belden 8412. Friedman and Cornish both use this wire. Sounds great! :thumbsup:

Yeah, I know it's overkill with the silver solder.
I figured though since it isn't too much more in cost and easy to work with then why not just go for it one time and be done. :)

PE lists 2 brands of silver solder at 4% silver, and one brand offers smaller tubes with 2% and 3% silver content.
The brand that makes the lower silver content solder, is the one that has a higher melt point.
