I have a 'Dyne and its great for all tones but metal.....while I'm not THAT into metal, I do seek the syrupy, smooth lead tone saturation of John Petrucci, Steve Morse (not really metal, but you get the picture) and the like.

I would like to be able to push the amp's natural flavor a bit more than a scratchy volume bump if I need, tho the scratchy bump does have it's uses sometimes...

I'm thinking using an EQ in the loop might get you what you want, and a ton more versitility from the amp. Perhaps a real clean boost, instead of an OD pedal turned down, might be a good idea. It will push your amp harder, while retaining it's core sound instead of coloring it. Using something like a MXR Microamp and a Dano Fish n' Chips EQ could get you a multitude of new tones, and just increase the compression/saturation of your current tone as well.

Also, if you are interested in an OD, check out the B.K. Butler Tube Driver.

Xotic BB+ is what I'm using. The A side of the pedal sounds like a regular BB Preamp, but the B side has more gain and that's what will give you the lead tones you seek.

I ran an Xotic RC Boost and an OCD with mine and they both worked great. BB Pre-Amp would be good also.

Exactly the same pedals I own and have tried with the Electra Dyne. I prefer the OCD with the Electra Dyne and the RC Booster with my Peters Polaris amp.

Check out the Hermida Audio Zendrive or Mosferatu, both will get you those smooth tones. The Mosferatu has more gain than the Zendrive. They used to have a wait list, but I don't think there is a wait at the moment. They are kind of pricey at $200, but will do exactly what you are looking for.

Yup, same here.
I like the OCD better with the Electradyne.

Try a bad monkey in the front, i bought one and was pretty amazed how good it sounded with my electra dyne for the money
