I've got a baby on the way and I want to play the guitar when it's possible.
What I am looking for is a good sounding unit to play through using my headphones.

It has to have Aux input so I can jam along with my favorite songs and it has to sound good.

Is there anything out there????
It's gotta be really awesome

If you have an Iphone, just use JamUp and Bias. Tons of amps, effects, 8 track mixer, looper, and the ability to jam along with any song you have on your phone. Plus, you can use it with cheap computer speakers for low level jamming, or use it as backup at gigs, running straight into the FOH mixer.

Does it sound really good or crappy?
Do I need to purchase hardware?

+1 on using an iPhone or iPad app. I like the tone of Ampkit+ best of the apps out today. You can open any song in your iTunes music library and hear both the song and your guitar at the same time.

Sounds surprisingly good, and you need hardware to plug the guitar into. I'm using an Apogee Jam 96k as the input interface.

If you want to step up to a higher level you could get a Kemper or AxeFX and play into a PC while monitoring through headphones. Far more expensive, but it probably also brings the quality up a notch. Since you seem happy with your amp setup it could be fun to profile it using the Kemper.

But for ease of setup and portability, the iPhone/iPad apps are tough to beat. Definitely competes with any of the Pod floor modelers or the VST plugin modelers.

JamUp is seriously the best thing I've owned for headphone practice. I even use it more than I did my Axe FX II for silent practice, although obviously it can't compare in other departments. It's also cheaper than most other options. It sounds fantastic!

You do have to buy a small interface dongle that plugs into your phone, but the one I bought was around $15. There are some higher quality ones for up to $100, but for silent practice, I wasn't convinced it was necessary.

Right now Im using a yamaha thr10x and with headphones it sounds reasonably good. Also acts as an interface for your computer so you can record direct. I had an axe fx II and for me it was better than having an amp. With a good set of cans once you get used to it its like your playing through an amp. Had to sell my entire set up for my NGD thread that I posted the other day so Ive only got the THR10x right now. Also have a Kemper on layaway at GC but thats a few weeks out.
