So I'm looking for new speakers/cab for my Mesa Roadster. Currently have a Marshall cab with eminence ax-75's. It sounds good for the most part, but is too bright live. What are you using with yr recto? I read somewhere that greenbacks tame the fizziness of a framus cobra, and I'm wondering if they would do the same for the Roadster? Also looking for a big bass response. I've been told that I like amps and cabs that sound dark.

Don't a lot of the Mesa cabs have V30's?
I use them with my Triple and it sounds killer.

Mesa cabs sound the best with Rectifiers. The Mesa Vintage 30's are made to Mesa-spec, which is basically dialing back the highs. My favorite cabs ever.

I found the best combo of speakers to be The Mesa V30's (which come standard in Mesa's cabs, they sound beefier than standard V30's but live in the upper midrange) and Mesa C90's which are thick and bitey sounding speakers that live in the low midrange. I'm running them in an "X" pattern in my Recto cab and it seemed to bring out the best in my Triple. It's like the V30's add the cut and the C90's add the thick beef to your tone.

The combo mentioned above sounds great. My band mate is trying to sell me an Emperor can with cannabis Rex's. Gomna check it out tomorrow.

I can't stand being in front of the Celestion V30 cab, although I really like the way it records.

I love the Mesa Stiletto cabs with Rectos (and Marks). I dig the smaller dimension compared to the oversized recto cabs. Amazing how much of a dif the cab dimensions make. V30s sound very different in those two cabs. Same with Bogner cabs. They make V30s sound pretty damn nice. Roadster cabs sound great too. (V30/C90 Xpattern.

My old Carvin cab with Eminence made speakers was amazing sounding with the recto! That thing had the perfect, thick syrupy tone, but with punch. Actually liked it better than my Recto 212.

Totally agree. I've never liked V30s in Marshall cabs, but in the Bogner cab it's completely different. That being said, some amps just sound better with other speakers, regardless of the cab. My SLO sounds MUCH better with Greenbacks in my Marshall cab than it does thru my V30 Bogner cab. And, the Ecstasy and Recto KILL thru the Bogner cab. (although the Ecstasy sounds pretty good thru the Greenback Marshalls and my silver Marshall with 75s.

Mesa's slimmed their cab selection down. The Stiletto 4x12s are being called Recto Traditionals again and the Roadster cabs are out of production.

Yeah I saw that too. The Roadster 212s are the same as the "compact" recto 212s now. And the Stiletto 212 was the exact same cab as well, but with white piping.

Didn't the Roadster cab have a rear port?

I had a Bogner 4x12 straight and a Mesa traditional straight for a few months together. Both cabs loaded with V30's and it was pretty eye opening to hear how different they sounded. The Bogner was a lot warmer sounding and a little looser, The Mesa was much brighter and a little more tight. Both cabs are really good but I would go with a Mesa for metal, for everything else I'd pick the Bogner.

My Bogner with V30s sounds like a million bucks with anything, including a Rectifier.
