I know some of you guys are using SS power amps for your axe FX, wondering what the general consensus is when it comes to SOUND, not necessarily convenience or weight, though weight is important. Art trumping carvin now? I just plugged my axe fx into the blackstar HT-5, and it sounded sweet! I wonder how the new egnater power amp would do with the axe fx over an SS solution.

I just went with the new Carvin lightweight poweramp and it sounds great and its only 16lbs. Im at a point now with the axe-fx where I firmly believe that you can make it sound great with just about any poweramp provided that the poweramp has some headroom.

Crown Macrotech 5000?
Crest 4801?
Whatever??

Whoa a Crown Macrotech 5000, you like some power eh?

I have an extra Crown K1 power amp, but I would worry that it would be too much power for my guitar cabs if I used it....

Best power amp I have heard with the axe is the Mesa tube strategy 500, that was a crushing combo, me I did not dig it with any SS amp.

Its hard to imagine an SS sounding warm and non brittle when somewhat loud, but I may have to try it sometime.

I was running a VHT 2/90/2 with mine and it sounded killer but it was heavy. Bought the Carvin 1540L a few days ago, hope to get it and fire it up next week. Hopes are high. Man I love the Axe-Fx Ultra

let me know what you think of using the carvin power amp versus your tube one man, would love to hear your thoughts. I was playing the axe FX standard through the blackstar ht-5 and that sounded awesome to me! really good. I was hoping to keep the axe fx in my studio rack, but since I am rackless now, I may pick up a cheap SS amp and go axe fx for when I play live. a light SS setup would be awesome if it sounded just as good.

I will report back, going Axe Ultra/Carvin 1540L/Foot Controller/2x12 cab for grab and go gig rig.

Thats what I am using now and it sounds awesome IMHO. The thing Ive noticed about switching to SS is that you might have to EQ a few freequencies a bit and I find that if I keep the presence down in the amp sim, it warms the tone up A LOT!!! Im very happy with this seyip and ditching the Boogie power amp has lightened my rig up by 40 lbs or so!!

I gotta tell you the Axe Fx Ultra is really amazing, I have had everything and this one 2 space box can cop most of it. Cliff is one smart dude...Mark Day hooked me up with his presets and how to pull the patches of the axe-editor and I am loving it.
