The more astute of you may notice that the Mazda's that are being sold for $105 dollars are in fact RFT's, which usually command around $30 each.

You may also notice that further down the Mazda's that are being sold for $149 are also RFT's.

You may then pay attention to the Edicrons being sold for $149, that are in fact Yugoslavian EI tubes, and usually go between $20 and $30 for a good one. (Many of these have been known to go microphonic quite early in their lifetime)

Unfortunately, pointing this out at home on the Plexi Palace Bulletin just earned me a lifetime ban. Apparently it is not okay for me to warn fellow members there of what they may unwittingly be purchasing, but it is okay for the site owner to dupe people with dishonestly described tubes (I say dishonestly, since I had pointed out what they were)

Just want to warn you all, that is all. Not just of this particular link, but of many, MANY sellers.

Pulling the wool over someone's eyes really sucks. But I'm just glad there are plenty RFT's left out there. They are hands down my favorite 12ax7 in Marshall-style circuits and most high gain amps

I need to pick up some RFT's. Marshall tones are my thing.

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about the lifetime ban. It blows my mind that shit like this happens when things are brought to truth!

So much of this has been going on for years. Mostly with EI, RFT, and Tesla(Not JJ) being rebranded. One needs to know what to look for if they are in to tubes. Personally I never bonded with RFT. Something about their low end. My fav for gain stages is the Tesla Rosnov e83cc silver pin military.

Unfortunately as time goes on and true nos tubes are dwindling , this type bs is and will happen more and more. I purchased a set of British made nos el84's for my Marshall and although they sounded great they only lasted a few days use before redplating. What these guys call nos these days is hardly the case. They will call any tube not in production nos even though many were pulled from old electronics equipment and on their last leg. They should just say in description used tube but still tests good, etc. I remember when ei 12ax7 tubes were looked down upon. Tubestore.com wouldn't even guarantee them or sell them for guitar amps due to high failure rate and high noise ratio.

Good catch man. Lots of fakes out there too. Telefunkens without the diamonds on the bottom and other issues. Sad world we live in sometimes.

Telefunken rebranded tubes like most of the other companies back in time where really nobody cared about the term NOS. See the oportonities as well, there are lots of Blackburn Mullards to buy, branded Valvo, Haltron or whatever going for much less bucks then the Netherlands made Mullards

But agreed, it is becoming sad as soon as acid codes or diamond signs are getting faked.

Boy I sure am in the dark on this matter. I can't imagine paying as much for NOS tubes as I currently pay for a whole set at Doug's, just to find out that it wasn't what I was trying to buy.

Then again, I don't really need NOS tubes.

I like the RFT in V1 of marshalls.. maybe a little off topic but what do you guys like that is current production and is similar? Tung Sol RI or god forbid, JJ??

I would be interested in hearing an opinion on this also. Someone who has tried the RFT's and is using a current production tube in place of them.

Do you go by the name demonufo on the Plexi Palace Bulletin board ?
I ask cos I had a look and your not banned
I dont doubt your info about the tubes being misrepresented but the user name demonufo does not seem to have a ban placed on it

Yeah, that's me, and when I try to log in, I get this...

Ho hum.

As for Current Production tubes in V1 for classic Marshalls, I don't think anything is particularly like RFT, but the Tung-Sols are nice and crunchy and thick, and the Mullard Re-issues are nice too, but a little brighter than the Tung-Sols. I hate the JJ ECC83, BUT, the ECC803S with the long plates is quite a nice tube. The only other CP tube I like is the Sovtek 12AX7LPS, but most other Sovtek tubes are but mere junk, imo.

I love JJ's and so does my Splawn.

What's wrong with them?

But otherwise, I'm a huge fan of the JAN Phillips 5751. Both for PI and first gain stages.

Hi ,I am Sorry to hear that .
I also think its a particularly shady practice to not publicly ban you as it makes victor mason look like he is clean in all this as it doesent bring attention to his underhanded dealings
if he did publicly ban you it would obviously raise a debate over there that he wants avoid...

I would bet there would be a lot of old time members and new ones over there that would be very annoyed that he his pulling a stunt like this.
Ive been over there for nine years now and its a sad coincidence that I have only very recently heard other stuff about some extremely shady and questionable business that happened way back....

as far as I am concerned if there is not an original box with the tube it is not NOS and I will treat it as such. I personally would never pay $100 for a tube of any kind but I will buy used tubes at around $30 bucks. I have a load of used blackburns ecc83's and rca 12ax7's laying around that I probably paid $10 ea for. No telling how used they are but they all sound great.
