I’m 41 and lifted weights for 20 years now. It’s catchinf up with me. I see a Chiro that does ART and Fasciia Distortion Method on my shoulders and forearms. I’ve had tennis elbow and golfers elbow now the last two years and it’s now moved to my left bicep.

Just seeing if anyone has dealt with this in the bicep and what exercises you’ve used to help it while playing guitar. I’m doing more yoga and less weights until it goes away. I also use a Flexbar almost daily to prevent tennis elbow.

Thanks!

Whenever I've had it I've stopped lifting and only stretched until it went away. It's an inflammation, which normally needs rest to heal. Your body is giving you a message. Listen.

I had some bursitis/tendonitis in my left bicep a few years ago. There were some stretches the physical therapist had me do that worked well. You should look them up online. One was standing in a doorway with your arm against the door and then you stretch your body in the opposite direction. One involved pulling and pushing a band, etc. It definitely worked because the pain went away and I can just feel it occasionally. One thing that really helped was keeping my hands under my body doing pushups. I used to have them out a bit but now I keep them closer. Not really close but not stretched out at all past my shoulders.

One sidenote, I bitched when the hospital sent me out to have this done miles from my location....until I saw my physical therapist. Then I was begging for more assistance. LOL! The first day she grabbed my arm and then laid across my body basically. I went to work the next day skipping like I had just won the lottery. :)

I injured my left are and couldn't play for three years. I only recently picked it up over Christmas vacation but noticed just today after work that it's still there, just not as bad. I know when to stop and take notice. Rest is key here.

I'm in the gym every other day for many years and had only one problem with a bicep tendon in 2011... I didnt stop working out, I just lowered the weight and eliminated preacher curls for awhile. Do you take creatine? These things take fucking forever to heal as there is no blood supply to the tendon like there is to a muscle. My problem was in the very pocket of my elbow where the bottom of the bicep meets with the forearm. There are exercises you can do but the only thing that heals is time... unfortunately.. creatine supplementation can help with additional water around the area so your not so dry when lifting.... good luck

A friend of mine who was a body builder started having alot of tennis elbow type complaints in his early 40's, I think alot of it is repetitive motion injuries from years of use, kind of like rotator cuff tears and such. I really don't know what he did to combat it, he never really said. He kept lifting regularly though and using that andro stuff to maintain his muscle mass, you could tell when he took it too, he became argumentative and grumpy.

ive had tennis elbow a few times over the years from bowling, also remember having it in my wrist years ago while my band was in the studio to where i couldnt even hold a pick. each time i just stopped everything for a month and took naproxen daily and i was fine after that

Taking numeric helped me a lot. I do a lot of hand stretches that seem to work on the whole arm.

I have whats called Radial Tunnel, the muscles in the forearm over develop and put pressure on the nerves just below the elbow on the outside of the forearm. I wind up losing all strength in my ring and pinky fingers on my left hand. Happens when I play bar chords too often, so I tend to play a lot of inverted 5th live just to get through gigs. Only way to stop the pain is to not play for a bit.
