Bill Lawrence L500XL through 5153

I've been listening to entirely too much Nuno lately... So I decided to pick up a BL L500XL to throw in my alder mutt. Here are the results...

 
Have them stock in my N4's. I love them to death!
 
Sounds really good! I've grown to LOVE maple boards! Definitely my favorite.

Thanks man! For the most part its channel 3, but there is some channel 2 in there for spice. :) As I've gotten used to the amp, channel 2 has really grown on me. Ditching the JJ power tubes really helped with channel 2 as well.

Yeah. The WXT+s. They really warmed the amp up and made channel 2 a lot more usable to me.
 
In my opinion, even with the stock tubes, channel 2 is worth the price of the amp alone. Heck man, channel 2 with the gain at 11 o'clock sounds about as mean as I ever need. Sometimes I sneak the gain up to 1 o'clock though :rock:

The red channel sounds like a nuclear powered, flame thrower. I set the gain on that channel at 9 o'clock and keep laughing to myself how heavy it is.

One of the things that kills me the most is that the amp sounds like it has EL34's in it if you are on the 2nd channel with the gain below 12 o'clock.

You can't get too much influence from Nuno. They guy just has a sense of swag in his groove that makes a pentatonic scale sound like he invented it. I think I like his riffing better than his leads. Such a great player.

Great chops on a great piece of gear as well.
 
Something must be wrong with the N4 I just got. I havent had a chance to test the pickup, volume pot, or switch but both the L500XL and the SD'59 sound thin...

Thats my project for tomorrow. If everything checks out the L500XL is going buy buy... If I can get it to sound the the OP's vid it's staying and I'll be :rock: the N4 at our next show...

It's so true... Nuno's the only guy that gets that swing going like EVH without copying him. And he does it with an extremely precise drummer...

The L500XL is bright and chunky. Thin is not how I would ever describe the L500XL. Something must be wrong.

Nuno's playing is unbelievable. His groove, his swagger and to top it all off, he's funky as fuck all!

The solo for 'Rest In Peace' is in my top three fave solos of all time.

Th C5 is warmer than the L500XL. The L500XL has sort of a single-coil feel to it when you're playing. It doesn't really come through on the clip, but it's more in the feel. I think some of it has to do with how articulate the pickup is. When A/Bing between this guitar and my 59 loaded Les Paul, this pickup has the same high end presence- which makes switching between the two guitars easier, as you don't need to reach for the tone knobs on the amp. The C5 has a bigger bottom end to it, which could get a bit muddy if you weren't careful. The L500XL has plenty of bottom end, but it is MUCH tighter. Overall, I'm really liking it. It pairs extremely well with the P90.

Yeah, thats pretty much it. Mine has that single coil feel, add to that the N4 doesnt have a tone control and the pickup is even brighter. I can certianly dial the amp in for the N4 but I'd rather it feel and sound similar to my other guitars just for live consistency...

I guess I'm lucky that the Duncan 59s in my LP are about the same brightness as the L500XL. It actually works out very well for me. The single-coil feel in only when playing the guitar. When I have recorded with one or talked to other people about my tone, no one has said it sounds like a single.
 
Awesome! Watch all your clips and for me personally like the tone on this video the best. Just sounds so damn "Bitey" (is that even a word??) :lol: :LOL:
