I have been looking into Marshall modders again and I remember someone saying that the Marshalls used by BJA on the Green Day records were modded.
Just wondering by who?

Im pretty sure his amps were modified by the same guy who does some of Doug aldrichs' Marshalls. Martin Golub at Custom Audio Electronics (think he left CAE and is on his own now)

I hope this helps

Very much

Out of curiosity, any idea if he used JCMs, JMPs?

Yup it was Martin Golub, and it was the Dookie mod that it was called!

There was one on ebay earlier this year, i remember seeing it on there. Martin does some great sounding mods!

Yeah.
Reason I was asking is because i was thinking about getting a Ceriatone or something and having someone mod it.
Hopefully i can find someone that can mod a 50watter...everyone seems to only do the 100watters :(

Here's the info I received awhile back:

Martin can mod your Superlead. Dookie is more like a Crunch mod, SE is the lead mod. The Crunch mod is 350.00, and the Lead is 550.00.

350$...not bad at all.
Do you have his contact info?
I wonder what model Marshall he needs and if ha can do a 50watter

Mark Cameron will do a 50watter, but depending on what model it is (size of chassis) depends on how much modification can be done i think.

For example a small box 50watter would be a tight fit compared to say a 50w JCM800 chassis!

Martins mods do sound great though, he can probably customise the mod to suit the sound you are after!

Yeah... i was looking for 'lesser known' modders.
Cameron and the others are busy, which means longer wait time and i am sure more expensive also.
I guess i could always contact Tim Caswell and see if can do any custom mods.

Id try Martin first and then if you cant get what your after with Martin, then try Tim or someone else. Maybe Dave Friedman? He does some amazing sounding mods for Marshalls :)

Dave Friedman does work for Steve Stevens, EVH and many others. Some guys over at HRI have Marshalls modded by him, and they sound really good! He does a whole bunch of mods, but the most well known one he does is called the Angry hippy. Its a killer high gainer!

Yeah man, I've played those Angry Hippies (I been hanging out with Blankenship, and he's working with Dave). Those things have the most usable insane gain I've heard. Does a good AC/DC crunch with gain down also.

Dave Friedman sold me my CAE 3+ and VHT 2150.

He added an on/off switch to the 3+ for the EQ for Steve Stevens. (since I own the Steve Stevens 3+)

Dave's mods are definitly ones that i would love to try someday!! I enjoyed clips i heard before!

The mod that i want to get so badly, is the Tommy Folkesson mod. Those Marshall mods he does sound fucking insane!! I think he builds them with like an internal dummy load or something, so the sound your getting plugged straight in is similar to when you slave an amp. Harry Cody of Shotgun Messiah used one on Second Coming cd, and his tone is rediculously good on it!

Its just that i remember hearing he doesnt like shipping internationally and also i would get ripped on shipping if i bought one. Its a pricey mod as it is anyway!

Well, after talking to them, they can work the mod on about any Marshall or clone.

Great news!! Did they quote you a price and any other info or anything?
