These are cool vids, except I which they would have put com parables back to back. Covered clean position 1 vs uncovered clean position 1. Instead they went through all the tones covered and then all uncovered. Harder to compare. The same in the Ceramic vs Alnico. Rez needs to edit this for them. ;)

Covered H vs Uncovered H

Ceramic vs Alnico

Am I nuts or is he actually doing what you're asking for at the end of the video - back to back??

Personally, with the demos offered, I like the sound covered in the first clip. Just my take on tone.

good demo....i have the alnico nailbombs in my ESP M-II....love 'em !

NOLLY!! I loved those demos, I think they gave a very accurate description of what the differences were. For my buck, the ceramic nailbombs took the cake! WINNING*

I love these pickups. Need to buy a 7 string set for an alberbody guitar. Whose got the recommends? Going into Diezel Amps, for loud live usage...
I wanna get my hands on a 7 string just so I can load it with Aftermaths

It depends one what you are going for tone wise. I have the Painkiller, and the Rebel Yell. I have used the Ceramic Nailbomb, the Holydiver, and the Black Dog set. I am quite interested in the Warpig, and the Aftermath, but I have no experience with these two. The Rebel Yell is interesting, it is an alnico V magnet, yet it can stay really tight in lower tunings under intense amounts of gain.

So lets say I have a Les Paul custom, mahogany w/maple top, rosewood board, and I'm looking for straight ahead rock from Page to Sykes. I considered the Cold Sweat, but if there's a better option...

Cold Sweat, or perhaps a Mule. Seems like you may want to go for something with the PAF profile, though I could be mistaken. The Black Dog has allot of mids. Cold Sweat has a tight and percussive bottom end, and the Mule is more open. They both can get pretty raunchy, even the Mule being at a lower output. Cold Sweat is Ceramic, and the Mule is Alnico IV. In the end, different Strokes for different Folks. I believe that Sykes used the old Dirty Fingers.

If you are using lower tunings, the Cold Sweat will hold the focus better on the lower end. I think either way, you will get pleasing tone from either. :dunno:

BKP aren't the only good pickups out there, but I prefer them the most. So far my favorites out of the ones I've used are the Painkiller, Black Dog, and the Rebel Yell. Still have to try some of the others.

Out of the Seymour Duncans, my favorites are the Duncan Custom sh-5, and the Duncan Distortion sh-6. I really like the Alnico Pro II for the neck position, and can't seem to escape that pickup to save my life. Haven't found another neck pickup that sounds better for what I do like this one does. It is like butter to my ears.

Black Dog set or Black Dog neck Riff Raff bridge is what you NEED. Alternatively, I have a BD neck, Alnico Nailbomb bridge set in my Les Paul Custom which sounds magnificent.

I was siding on the BlackDogs for a few moments while responding to this post. I own 'em too - but the one thing about these pups is their really pronounced mid growl. I don't think it's something easily tamed for applications outside of the LZ genre, albeit, a very versatile pup for originals and the like. RRs are more 'standard' sounding, but incredible 'standard' at that. Like PAFs on just a bit of juice, and a way higher calibre of note clarity and oooomph. BDs? Man, they're angry puppies for sure
