Black star HT5 vs BFG modded Jet City 20

Anyone hear either of these amps together?
Wondering if The the BFG with the 420 mod is Way better than the ht5.
I have heard a ject city with the brown eye mod and thought is was good but not enough gain. For the money which is the better deal? The BFG clips do rock for sure!

I used to own the HT5 and have played a stock Jet City and even judging by clips of the modded version I'd probably take the BFG mod over the HT5. Don't get me wrong the HT5 was definitely a cool amp but I always felt like I wanted just a little more saturation out of it. I sold the HT5 off to get a Baron Snot Watt and I'm really happy with that although I look forward to trying out the JCA22H from Jet City.

I just listened to the JCA20H modded by Dave Friedman on the tube and man that amp sounds great!

I did see Friedman's stuff for awhile then all kinds of selling and flipping and new players to the crowd, I cannot keep track of this stuff.

I rate the stock Jet City over the Blackstar. I might pick up a local used HT-5 soon though for £190 - hardly used.

I agree, but not 100%, since the comparison is not apples to apples. I have an HT5 and my own modded JCA20 and they are very different animals. The biggest difference is the HT5 is 5 watts and a JCA20 is 20 watts. Would you say Brians 100 or 120 watt amps make his JCA20 sound like a toy ? All kidding aside, I would take a well modded JCA20 since they can sound huge. I am still shocked how good they can sound.

I agree. he was just asking between those 2 amps, the modded jca20 are incredibly killer sounding. I played mine out this weekend and had quite a few compliments, and from people who didn't even now what they are, I think they thought I was lying to them because it sounds so huge, they thought it was some boutique amp

I think the HT-5 sounds sweet for 5 watts and the price is right. I would have killed for an amp like that 30 years ago when I started playing.

You just have to hear the 420 in person! Ive showed it to quite a few people and they just cant believe its a 20 watt amp. It has al the gain you'll need, and its all useable gai, no fizz and it packs some thump too! I love mine!!!!
