I have just announced the judges pick for the winner of the Blue Noize contest:

The winner gets a PRS 25th Anniversary SE Custom 24!

just ironic the first place winner, in a blues contest, is using jazz chord progressions

i think number 3 should have gotten it. when i think of blues i think of his playing, not the others. 3's was much more interesting to listen to than the other top winners IMHO - the first place winner had the feeling going on but most of it was mindless wanking.

congrats to them all though

agreed! 3rd was much better!

I think if depends how you classify blues personally I have a broad view of blues and to me it's more about the vibe and emotion rather than playing pentatonic licks in the style of Albert King. I know the winner is not everyones choice and I appreciate everyone has their own views but I think the judges did a good job in finding a really talented set of guitarists.

Cool. But I agree. The 1st place winner would have been my 3rd place.
Too many notes. Much wanking going on there. :aww:

dude the tone that guy was getting was fucking nastyyyy

I still wish you would've accepted audio only takes. I had something pretty sweet worked out for this.

Good job,Guitarnoize  !I guess it must be difficult to choose a winner after hearing so many takes of the same backing track !I just listened to a few of them and,it's already difficult  !But i agree with the others,Koliok has such a nice tone and, more importantly,he's the only one (of the 3 winners) who brought a "progressive intensity " (is it English?) into his solo. There is "life" in there, and fire !It's not "linear" and lifeless...Not complicated but it's "blues"!He's my winner (of the 3) !

I can see why a lot of people like #1 and I did too, but he really didn't do anything to break out of what has become the standard blues sound these days...recycled SRV (which was recycled AK) style blues. Although I love that stuff, the blues encompasses so much more...its a shame IMO that a majority of people think thats what its all about.
At least #2 and #3 did something "outside the box", both literally and figuratively, so I can see why they were chosen over #1. They all brought it for sure, but with #1 we've heard it all before.
