I think a fair trade is a PWE for an ULTARLEAD or CLX. The Sig X is good but not USA made I believe and not as nice sounding.
I like too many amps

SigX is USA made and sounds and feels outstanding. My 20th Shiva sounds too similar to my PWE for me to keep both. The PWE responds a bit better to volume roll off. I consider the PWE, like a warmer Splawn. I aso have a friend who owns a local studio who is willing to trade me his Mesa Royal Atlantic for the PWE! Nice! I prefer the SigX and Royal over the PWE, I believe.
I also think the PWE and Shiva 20th are tonally similar.

I don't care for the SigX as much as either one of them, but I admit my knowledge of this amp is limited. I like what I've heard of the RA (especially from Mark Morton), but I can't speak with any personal experience about that amp.

In the end, your ears will convince you of which one to choose. Just try to play the amps yourself, with your guitar (if that is possible), before making the decision.

They are not exactly alike, they feel different, and the PWE responds much better to volume knob roll off. Anyone would be hard pressed to do better than an EH. I think we will see more pros using the PWE because they are that good.

I didn't read through what everyone has said but I agree with your original logic. I feel the same way about guitars (not to mean two different LPs can't cover different ground/provide variety). With amps especially though, I try to limit myself to 3 amps max. Usually have only 1 or 2 at a time.

I thought the Sig X was made in china due to the lower price point as compared to the UL and CLX. I will have to give that one another listen. But if you do not want to duplicate tones the UL is special due to the KT88's. Check out sgt thump's videos on youtube. He had some great amp comparisons and maybe it can help.

USA made.

I played the PWE EH today a while. This is one of my all time favorite amps. Plays well, sounds amazing, it smokes!
