I just received the new amp this week and have a few questions for anyone with experience with it.

Upon unpacking it I noticed that the back panel is sticking out between Remote Control & Sound Style switch. There is a screw between them but I didn’t mess with it as it might cause a short or something.

No sound out of channel 1 for over an hour. I powered it up and left it on stand by for about 20 minutes before trying it out. I messed around with channels 2 & 3 for an hour or so then switched to channel 1 and could not get any sound. I put it back in stand by for another 30 minutes or so and tried it again and it sort of worked.

I noticed that channel 1 will only work if the Gain is set high, at least up to 7 or higher. If the gain is at 1 and the Volume maxed it barely makes a sound. The output is very low. Is that normal? The other two seem to work fine.

The amp is extremely noisy when switching channels until it is on for two hours.

Is this normal for the amp? Thanks.

No. This is not normal.

Where'd you get the amp?

These things are gold, not garbage. Did it get buggered in shipment? Any pics of this back panel you could post?

Details please.

Open up the cage in the back and make sure EACH AND EVERY one of the tubes - power and pre - are well seated in their respective sockets. Obviously do this when it's cool and unplugged/off.

Could be a faulty preamp giving you grief for Ch.1

More details please.

Thanks for the reply. I only had a few hours with it this morning, but it was a huge disappointment.

It doesn't look like there is any damage from shipping, it was packed pretty good in the Bogner box.

I will take a look inside and make sure the tubes are seated. What about the back panel? Any problems with foot switch jack sticking out? It looks like there isn't enough room or something.

Definitely NOT normal.

I'm also curious about further details...

Did you buy it new or used?

Nothing on the back panel should be as you're describing. Pics?

I bought it new, or it is suppose to be anyway. There are no marks or scratches on it, so it appears to be new. It's a V sticking out, the screw between the foot switch jack and the Style switch the screw isn't in all way or they aren't in right.

The back panel issue sounds like the least of your problems, but it's definitely not right. I'd look into exchanging it for another one. You bought it from a dealer, correct?

Anyway, just so you know, here's how it should look:

Thanks for the pic, that is the spot where it's poking out. I got it from a dealer, the guy who runs this forum.

Let him know what's up with it. I'm sure he'll take care of it for you.

Hey Guys,

He bought a brand new 20th Anniversary XTC EL 34 head from me. We got it in from last week from Bogner and immediately sent it off to the customer. I have already emailed Jorg and Irwin and we will either troubleshoot it for him or exchange it asap. Totally agree the amp is brand spanking new and should not have any issues but sometimes it happens. I am standing by to hear back from Bogner now and he will be 100% sorted out immediately one way or another. To the OP please check your email.

Cheers
Brad

OP, you can relax, you're in great hands with Brad! He'll take care of you.

Myself and Jorg from Bogner are already on it. We are troubleshooting now and if Jorg cant run it down easily we will pick up that amp and Bogner send a brand new one to him. Problems can happen from time to time but its how they are responded too which is where the rubber meets the road. Bogner customer service is top notch and I am there as well to make sure it all goes well.

service from both Bogner & Brad are second to none - they'll get it straight

+1

I had a question for them a couple of weeks ago and they replied within a few hours. I think they are great!

They are going to ship a new one to me. Here is are some pics of the back of the amp. It's not a big deal but might affect the resale value if I ever decide to sell it.

A bent chassis is enough reason to have them ship you a new one. I have found the Bogner chassis a little more vunerable to this than I would have expected, I had 2 Bogner amps that the chassis bent during shipping. Good luck, hope the replacement rocks your world!

Thanks. Here is what the Bogner guys figured.

"Just to let you know we received the amp yesterday, we were baffled what happed never seen something like this where the chassis bends out.
But I know what happed, the amp wasn't centered anymore, you could see that on the front panel, I'm 100% sure the amp has been dropped in vertical position by the carrier, taking the chassis out I could see also the sides on the chassis being slightly bend, it must have been quite a drop that the transformers has such force on the chassis, obviously the rectangular hole in the chassis for the switch is a weak point and that's where the chassis gave it up. "

They shipped one out today and I should receive it by the end of the week.

There you go, thats how mine got bent as well (minor, not like yours). F*in carriers seem to love to hammer these boxes and drop them on end where the tranny weight distorts the chassis. I had one UPS guy hurl my $3500 head off the back of his truck and on end onto the ground. Wanted to punch him out and on top of it he was such a dick, said "this is the least its gone thru"! Good to know, I never use UPS now unless I have to. Good luck, hope the new one makes it in perfect condition (it does happen from time to time)!
