That's exactly what the Blue pedal should be doing. Red's going to be a little more high gain. You should be able to get plenty of chewy, gainy modded marshall tones from the Blue.
well... as good as it sounds, it's still a solid state distortion pedal
your amp won't sound like an ecstasy
I liked the pedal features tone in person, but if I had a JTM45, I'd rather use an OCD or something to push the amp
but I'm sure you can get something good out of it with some tweaking
Figured some guys would offer settings but I went back to zero and slowly added volume, bass, treble, mids. Amp was set pretty flat before but I increased mids and treble on JTM45. Bass on amp I at about 2, presence is around 3. Pedal is darn good when amp volume gets around 10:00, these JTM's are pretty loud.
Wasn't looking for that high gain, I had a Red used to run into Friedman. I am going for a cranked Plexi tone at lower levels...with the tweaks I made to settings it's now getting close. The boost on the Blue is good but I also like pushing it with a Suhr Koko run behind the Bogner pedal. Sounds damn good...wish I had good setup to record, only have iPhone 4S.
I played a blue today at GC. I tried a class 5 and a Mesa 5:50 using a stocker LP and a G&L Strat.
It is very much different than the Red. I bought a Red and it is great. Really great. It and in the Triple Wreck are the only distortion pedals I use.
The Red has much more grind.
I was hoping the Blue would be similar in intensity but a different flavor. I don't use any distortion, just the clean channel on my DSL100 for the Red and it is great.
Glad you got it to work. Blue is the best OD pedal I've put in front of a 4 holer. A little overkill, maybe, but sounds pretty good. However, my favorite is still the koko boost. It remains the champ.
TO my ear, these pedals are voiced like bogner amps... a little smoother or lower mid ish. If you are used to Marshall crunchy goodness (which sometimes fatigues the ears) , you prob won't hear as much of it, what you had to do was compensate a bit with your settings to find the tone you liked and were likely accustomed to.
Not really a Marshall guy, this amp is a platform for pedals really. While it sounds good by itself, for cleans and bluesy chime etc...I amp driving the amp into submission
I also have a Wampler Pinnacle on the way which should sound good as well.
