So I have a slant 4x12 Bogner, and somehow I find it too dark. Running the original UK made V30s in it, also tried X-Pattern with H30/V30, but didn't make it much better. It's full and fat, but doesn't give me that treble/upper mid crunch like my old Marshall cab for example.

I wonder if it's the padding or anything else that makes the cab sound dark and somehow lifeless?

Have any of you guys removed it and realised an improvement? Any other tips?

I have a Bogner straight 4x12 with 2 V-30's and 2 greenbacks, and it sounds great. Full, solid lowend and sweet mids. It's just about perfect.don't think I'd do padding on any cab.
Have you tried other 4x12's?

Maybe you can flip the back around (without screwing it) and see how it would sound without padding. Just an idea.

It's a nice idea, just need to unscrew the jack plate i suppose. I could even fix a few screws for the trial, the holes should match methinks.

I've removed the insulation out of mine awhile back. It does sound more open & crunchier, however it still sounds like a bogner cabinet, which is really cool btw. That said, if you want more crunchy, you need more thick & dense wood, and bogners are not that.

the padding is attached with simple staples, it's easy to remove & you can easily put it back.

I took the padding out of my Bogner Cabs, tried it, and stapled it right back in after I tested the cab....

I dig the padding....sounds much more 3D IMHO.
