Thinking of making the switch from Mesa to Bogner a few quesions though
1 How does it compare to the MarkV in all aspects especially versatilty?
2 What is the difference between the 100 watt and the 101b?
3 Is it a liquid 3d tone similiar to the rectifier?
4 Speakers right now I have the typical mesa oversized cab with v30's
5 Boost does it need it?
6 would it be cheaper to run the Red and blue bogner with my Mesa rev f 2 channel to get some versatility out of the amp because those pedals are sweet.
7 Pickups what kind work well with it passives or actives?
I think thats it I'll post if I have more questions

These are my opinions only
1. MKV has way better cleans ,
2. the b is the 34 or the british I think
3.Bogner red will be closer to a MK IMO but still different
4. V30 are great w Bogners
5, Has boost in amp does not really require additional gain IMO
6.probably about 2500 cheaper yes
7. Either or

Good Luck

**** For the tones you want to go for I would buy that Mesa recto reborn in classifieds thats the best amp for 90's type stuff

I would say it has more of a liquid 3D tone than a Recto.

It's voiced for V30s.

I owned both, to say mark V has better cleans is laughable. Sorry, there isn't anything I found the Mark V to do better than the Bogner.
Super versatile with 3 channels all with boosts internal and footswitchable for 6 gain levels over 3 channels. Nothing in common with a Rec IMO. Way more organic and liquid. Almost all 101's are 100 watts. V30's were the speakers used in development of the XTC. No boosts of any kind needed. Of course pedals would be cheaper.

Different amps. The XTC is the better amp IMO. That said you have to use the one that puts a smile on your face. Love Boogies but prefer Bogners. YMMV

Lol I would rather get a Blackstar or Jsx before i bought a reborn multiwatt Mesa rectifier just too much top end fizz honestly that's my problem with the mark five there's no real push with it I'm plagued from owning a dual rectifier early in my gear collection ugh I really think the mark 5 just is too harsh or toppy I'm going to try a different cab before I completely give up on it. Back to the ecstasy the 101 b is more British sounding?

Way back Bogner offered two Ecstasy's. The 101a and the 101b. The a stood for American and used 6L6 power tubes. The b stood for British and uses EL34s. The 101b version is the only version of the two still made

is that like one of those block letter pre 500 things?

The Mesa will have a faster attack that is better for metal. The Bogner has this vintage attack that is so sweet but if you are used to the Mesa, you may not like it. The overdrive tones of the Blue channel are unmatched and you could never pull it off with a Mesa or any amp. The plexi mode on the Bogner is going to be way more vintage Marshall than the Mark V could cover. I would say the clean channels are evenly matched. But again, the Mesa will be stiffer and the Bogner a bit more saggy and vintage.

The 20th ann is still made in 101a and 101b versions.

I have an older 101b Classic. I've spent some time with the Mark V and a few different Dual Rec's. The Mesa's are very different then the Bogner. The ecstasy has a very musical 3D quality. It's hard to explain sound. You just have to spend some time with one.
I'm not a mesa guy. Ive heard other players use them and thought they sounded great, but when I play them I can't stand the feel of the amp.

I've got an XTC Classic too that I love and have had about 12 years. However they definitely have their own thing going on and Bogners seem to be a love/hate thing.

Old/New just turns off some elements in the power tubes. It is one way to cut output power but most prefer the tone of the NEW setting. A/AB determines the class the power section operates in. AB is like a Marshall, A is like a Vox. A is harder on the tubes. I've always like AB better.

There is no comparison between the Bogner and the Mesa sound. You have to decide what you like better...
The XTC is not a modern metal amp like the Mesa. It is better suited for classic metal. Don't know your music preferences.
Own the XTC, played Mesa as well.
If you can get a Friedman! Whole new league of tone!

Are you saying that Friedman amps are in a different league than Bogners?

My 20th Anniv XTC was the 6l6 version. It was seriously one of the best tube amps I ever owned and could do just about anything. The Plexi mode was just killer. I just plain loved that amp.

Here are a couple of clips I recorded with mine:

Red Channel w/ Boost engaged

Blue Channel w/ Boost engaged

Blue Channel w/Plexi mode (used a BB Preamp for the lead)
