thanks for the input guys...yes 180 watt for a bedroom is just overkill..think I go with 100 watts ..i gotta fryette 50cl good amp I like it probably wanna get the clx or ul..but since I already have a vhr am thinking of other amps which sound different like tj or diezel had been keen on my thoughts but I just dont wanna getta amp of the same kind and gain structure..i think my cl lack of sweetness and saruration like tj can do and it does have little amount of sizzle I like it at certain point but I just wanna something differrnt hehe..

100 is still way over. I live in a recording studio and run my roadster on 50 watts and still rarely turn the volume past 1/3 unless I am playing a show.

Find an old Mesa MKIII, run that with a single Rec. Two great tones and not breaking half of what the Herbert will cost you.

The TJ is a different animal for sure, and if you put in the time (the EQ is very counter intuitive on this amp!), you can get a lot of great tones out of it. For the record, it is the one amp I regret selling. Although it was rarely used, whatever it was used for isn't easily imitated. It's loud, it's got low end, it's got a gain structure and voicing unlike anything out there in the world of high gain heads.

I say get the Herbert over all of the recommendations given here. I don't care if it's 50, 100, or 180watts. The thing is, the Herbert is great in a large venue AND in a bedroom setting because of the master volume and a GREAT taper! It is really that good. I've had a Dual Rec, Mark IV, etc. and they go from nothing to "peel the paint off the walls" real quick. The first amp I had was a 7watt Tiny Terror and I had to play that extremely loud to get a good tone out of it. If you have the money to get a Herbert then go for it

You can get a ton of tones out of the Herbert.

FWIW, I have a nice TJ from Brad and friends. I get up early to go to work and often practice in the morning, I mean 6:00 am early. My practice room is in the middle of the house, but you can get decent grind out of a TJ with it at what call "low yelling to talk" volumes. Mine has the Purple mod and gets a good boosted JCM 800 feel on ch 1.

It is a fun amp. It just oozes that 3 chainsaws running at once complex grind. First thing I played on it, and my wife called it in about 3 beats was old classic The Beautiful People by reverend Manson.

It's just a fun toy, not often used, but if you want that particular evil stripper metal vibe, the TJ is my go to. And anyone that plays it always just kerrengs out a chord and just grins.

But next year if the bonus is good, I will add a Herbert or D Mon.

There is no best amp. Just the best amps you can afford.

Good luck on your tone quest..

For the price there are a million better options than the Hagen... I may get slammed for this...I'm a Diezel FANATIC... but steer clear from the Hagen unless you are getting an insane deal...

I think the biggest problem wih this thread is the idea of buying a 180 watt amp for a bedroom amp.

Funny thing is that the Herbert sounds great at mouse fart levels. But still, for brutal metal I'd still take an old Recto as long as it's boosted with a good OD pedal.

thanks guys for the input perhaps from the way I wrote you guys probably know that am not a local am basically from singapore somewhere at south of southeast asia.. unfortunately we dont have boutique amps around that often I recently know that bogner has gotta deal with my local store am keen thou but its gotta be a tj perhaps and since I stepped into this nice board I seen many exclusive offers like blue face diezel damn thats sweet the vh4... ill try maybe mostly tj or vht..diezel maybe if I am richer ill try vh4?

vh4 seems to have the master and channel volume so you can push the output tubes hotter at low volume?

The herbert gets bashed for not cutting through the mix, but it will cut through like a knife just depends how you eq it. The thing about the herbert is that it has the midcut feature and sounds like no other amp sounds like...Turn it off and you have a mix like any other high quality amp. The herbert will get you pretty much any tone you would like from one of the most killer clean tones to one of the most brutal tones and everything in between, if you take the time to find out its adjustment levals...

I have to agree with this. I have been using my Herbert with another player using a Mesa Roadster. We blend nicely, yet the way I have Herbert set, I have more miss in play. Don't use mid-cut so much, here and there. Use Master Volume II for leads and add some delay...thats it.

Great tones, clean-->HEAVY and I love channel 2, sounds awesome and very articulate.

All that said, I am having a hard time thinking a bedroom player needs a Herbert, but if you can swing it, just buy it. I have never regretted buying a Diezel Herbert and it is just a pleasure to play! Oh, and don't forget the Diezel cabs

VH4's master volume is very good. You can run the master high and the channel volumes low or the channel volumes high and the master low, or something in between. It sounds different depending on how you set it up. Channel low, master high sounds bigger and warmer but not as aggressive (to me). Channel high and master low sounds more aggressive and gainy but not as fat. If you find the right balance between the two, you can get both fat and aggressive at reasonable volumes.
