Bogner XTC 100B or early XTC 101B. Which one should I keep?

I'm no liberal, but there's just something not quite right with what's going on. :scared:

Trouble is... liberal pie-in-the-sky policies are part of what created the problem. Legislating/threatening banks, forcing them to give loans to people who could never come close to affording to pay them back... didn't work-out too well. ;)

This was done intentionally IMO. "They" knew exactly what the outcome would be...

On a brighter note:
I just figured-out how the attenuator loop operates on the white chassis 101B. You have to use cabinet output #2 to get it to work. I was using output #1. Bogner should bring this option back! I can get that cranked tone from my gain channels (or whatever channel I set it for) at a tolerable volume, then switch-over to a non-effected clean channel for some good old down-home "chicken-pickin" fun!

Looks like these are both keepers.

Agreed. But the "left hand" wants you to think it was all the right hand's doing. Both hands were involved up to their arm pits in one way or the other. ;)

Hopefully it won't be as bad as Argentina?

I tend to think that in the end, it's gonna be worse. I say that because unlike during the Great Depression, where many people still had rural ties or had a memory of being self-sufficient, most people today have NO clue about self-sufficiency or out-and-out daily survival. They whine and wait for someone with a government agency to show-up and carry them to safety. New Orleans after Katrina was a prime example of that. Take that to a national scale and then you have an idea of the scope of the problem. Honestly, I've been trying to limit my GAS these days because sometimes when I look over at my XTC or VHT Ultra Lead all I can think is "how worthless that thing is when the power's out" and "that'd buy a LOT of canned goods right now". I receive great joy when I plug into these wonderful "toys" that I have been blessed with. And I've got a good wife who doesn't let me sell them to buy more food storage for the pantry (we've been buying extra food stores for years). But I still try to not get too blinded by that new piece of gear that I "just HAVE to have". There may come a time when I wished that I could eat them all. :aww:

It's messed-up for sure. I think the same things... Maybe we should stick to acoustics?

Me too man. Every time I add an acoustic to the stable I think to myself "well at least I can have a neighborhood jam session/hoe-down when the lights go out!". :D

Same thing with drums. I was going to buy a set of the Roland V-Drums, but the thought of them being useless without power made me decide against it.

I have a 1993 XTC 100B and a 95 XTC 101B - both with white chassis. I love both amps, and there are functions that one has but the other does not. I love the cabinet switching of the 101B - but I also love the variac feature of the 100B. They both sound pretty much the same in terms of tone and feel, so it's a difficult choice. The 101B has a better clean channel for sure. If the 101B also had the variac, it would be an easy decision. I just can't seem to justify having so much money out on two amps that are so close to each other in terms of tone. My 100B also has the coverless OT just like the three in Reinhold's personal 100B collection. :bash:

Call Bogner and ask if they would add the variac mod to your 101B.
Jorg sent me an email and said they don't have documentation on the older amps. He did say that they can look at the circuits, and make a determination as to what can and cannot be done... I think it's best that I leave these amps stock.

I've been told that the screen voltages in these early Bogner white chassis amps are high enough to run with a Tenma Variac without worrying about tube damage... Is this correct? Anyone?

Question is, is now the time to list it? It would be nice to make a small profit, but that's really not a big deal to me.

Now is ONLY the time to list it if you don't mind getting a fraction of what you'd be getting during a normal market (and don't expect things to get worse or drag-out for a long time).

The market is horrible and has been that way for at least the past year. And I don't see any reason that it will be going back up for years. So if money isn't short and you don't have something specific that you're looking to replace the 101B with, then I wouldn't sell at this time. If however you do have something that you're eyeing, you could trade the 101B (obviously it has a very high trade value) to someone and take such hit as you would with a sale. Your amp is rare enough that it's still going to command more than other boutique amps that were produced in larger numbers.

Right now is just a HORRIBLE time to be selling gear... especialy boutique gear. I picked-up my mint used XTC Classic a year ago for $2200, thinking it was a "steal". But I've seen XTCs go cheaper since then. It's just BAD out there right now...

Agreed, I wouldn't sell either unless you need to. If you did *have* to get rid of one I would keep the 100b for sure though. I've thought about selling off a few guitars from time to time and since nearly all of them were bought used I wouldn't take as big a hit as if I'd bought new, but even still, not a good market to be selling gear in unless you have to.

Good advice... Thanks! I don't need to sell one, but I seem to gravitate more toward the 101B because of the crunchy clean channel and the variac loop. Having a built-in variac on the 100B is just as cool though. When I turn it on, the power tubes dim to near black-out!
