Anyone with a XTC with the A/AB switch? Any noticeable differences from switching between the Class A/AB?

Don't own one but, yes played 3 Ecstasy's. 2 with and 1 without. There is an easily audible difference in tone between A & A/B. If you'd like an extra dimension of versatility, it's worth it.

It's definitely an audible difference. Whether or not it's a feature you'll use/need is entirely up to you though. Truthfully I don't use mine much but it's fun to mess with for certain things.

YES.

And I usually play lower volumes in OLD mode and Class A to get that real beautiful crunchy overdrive....

It's an expensive option, but I think well worth it.

Sweet thanks for the responses. I haven't owned a XTC with the switch, was just curious as to how different it is to one without. Owned a 101b and Classic previously, great amps.

So for lower volume playing Class A is the way to go?

How much would you guys pay for one with metal grill and the A/AB switch? Found one locally that I might check out.

I had an XTC with the Class A/AB option. It was a cool sound in CLass A option, but I could not stop the power-tubes from red-plating! I've read other threads at the Bogner forums from guys having the same issues. I would never have another XTC with this option.

I tried one with the a/ab option and definitely would not pay extra for it. If you can get one with it for the same price then go for it. Otherwise, not worth the extra coin IMO.

Didn't think the I know Class A runs the tubes a bit hotter, but didn't know they cooked em this hot. Anyone else have this problem too?
