Look, it's a real amp clip! At my band rehearsals, we typically use real amps because I have a bunch of them set up in the amp room. Last rehearsal other guitarist and I played through a Bogner XTC into a 72 Marshall straight cab and the other through a Splawn Quick Rod into a 76 Marshall blackback 55hz cab.

Thought this would be a fun clip to share, as both guitars play the same rhythm, then we each take half the solo while the other guy plays rhythm. This is a live recording, so it's not razor tight, but should give you an idea of how the two amps sound. Oh, I miked the Bogner with a Audix i5 and the Splawn with a SM57, ran that into a Focusrite Saffire 40Pro preamp into Reaper on my PC. Did some mastering fx on the entire mix to make it louder/embiggen it but nothing else. I also pulled the live vocals out, so you just get guitar/bass/guitar/drums.

Just thought this might be timely since I saw the thread about the guy considering several different amps.

I will reveal all soon. :) Not sure why you can't get it to play, seems to work for most of us. Might try reloading the page.

Reveal? It's obvious. The Splawn cuts right thru. Both amps mix well

If the second is a Splawn, I might have to give the QR a try...again.

The first one sounds like it cuts more to me and sounds more saturated like a Bogner, the second sounds more dry like a QR and doesn't cut as much on my computer speakers - could just be a volume imbalance between the two though??

I'd guess the first is the XTC and the second is the Splawn. The Splawn cuts better but the XTC sounds more "AIC correct".

Sorry some of you can't get it to play, I uploaded a wav file to soundcloud and I guess it works for some and not for others.

Regarding which is which and who is who, first solo is indeed a Bogner XTC second is the Splawn.

I liked both for different reasons. Sounded great no matter what.

I liked TAF Rose of Sharon better than either of them :)

It so works,

Splawn on left, Bogner on right. Whichever is which, they sound really good together. The bass and drums sounds killer, too.

Thanks guys. Drums are a Roland V-kit running SSD for the drum samples. Bass was a direct out from a Sansamp. I think the splawn would have sounded better with another i5 mic on it, the SM57 is really harsh sounding to me on most amps, I really prefer the audix.
