Help - just a few questions:

What are the differences in terms of tones between the 212 Rectifier and Roadster cabs when both using V30s?

Thanks!

The Roadster will have more pronounced mids and not sound as boxy or scooped out.

I've never seen a roadster cab local, but isn't it ported, and the recto cabs are not?

i had a roadster 2x12 and it kind of sucked .... it was actually VERY boxy sounding, not only that but it didnt fill a room well at all and had horrible note definition and separation...

it was compact and easy to move aorund thou, but i would deff recomend the recto 2x12 over the roadster

i couldnt sell that roadster 2x12 fast enough

Weird, I had the opposite experience when I AB'd em. :dunno: It was like comparing a Stiletto/traditional cab to a oversized recto cab.

The Roadster 1x12 has a rear port. The 2x12 is a Stiletto cab with black piping.

yea i also had both the recto and stilletto 4x12 cabs and i still thought the recto cab was still better than the traditional when i a/b'd the two....

the traditional cab did have more mids, but i still thought the recto cab sounded much bigger and filled out the room alot better

 Since "boxy" and "scooped" are essentially polar opposite characteristics, that really didn't make any sense.

I have both cabs. The Roadster cab is more compact but packs an incredible amount of punch and is a great sounding cab. The Recto cab has a bit more low end and is a bit more open sounding. Both sound great and I don't really have a preference other than I know my Herbert sounds sick through the Recto 2x12 (even over my Recto 4x12).

I've never given them a true AB test...maybe I'll do it one of these days, but for now the above is what I think of them. And I don't find either of them boxy sounding.

To me boxy means narrow sounding. So by my deffinition its possible to be both boxy and scooped :D

Had a simular experience. Dont they have a v30/ c90 in them. Maybe thats it. I cant stand the C90s. But it didnt seem to have that wallop, thump and cut the recto 212 did.

No they're not actually. Not to me anyway. Let me put it this way. When something sounds hollow to me or has a lack of mids, I consider it "boxy" sometimes. In this case I think the Stiletto/Roadster cabs have much more bite and "breathe" better. I don't like the recto cabs nearly as much, although I do own a recto 212. It's cool but after playing the stiletto I'd switch in a heartbeat.

In my experiences, a tone that is "boxy" is congested and lacking in mids or certain high frequencies. That's been a pretty consistent take on that definition of sound as far as I can tell.

I've always considered 'boxy' to be mostly mids... like an open back cab that has no real top or bottom end.

Damn it. I'm gonna do some clips with my cab inside a huge box and you'll see what I mean! :gethim:

  Nice!

Ok, box talk aside, the roadster/stiletto cabs sound less scooped, maybe not quite as "big" sounding to some, but to me they sound bigger because they are less directional and fill the room with smoother and better tone. Less harshness in the high frequencies. Tighter.

That's the classic definition of the term

The "vintage" Crate is probably more appropriate though :D
