I have decided it doesn't exist. I have been through loads of pedals over the years and not one does what I am looking for. I want a pedal that will work with high gain. I want the pedal to add space in between the notes and tighten the individual notes at the same time with little coloration. An OD tightens with the gain low but does so by compressing the overall tone which does the opposite of what I want It does not add any spaciousness to the tone. I think what I am asking cannot work from a design/electrical standpoint.

Cutting lows before they hit the amp will help, just don't boost the signal level and you'll avoid compression. It will only do so much as the design of the amp is a big factor.

I know. I am looking for something that will expand my signal before it hits the input but at the same time compress each note a little to tighten them seperately. Trust me it doesn't exist.

tightening is going to be a feature of LOWER gain, not more.

I agree. I am looking for something that will expand the signal and at the same time compress each note a little. I think this could be very cool and could make for a huge sound. No one has designed anything like this I am aware of.

This new pedal looks interesting. Not sure it will satisfy your needs though.

Does look cool. Thee are so many. I don't even think you could call what I am looking for a boost or overdrive. Do you understand what I am looking for. It will expand the signal and add air in between the notes but at he same time compress each note individually a little. I think this would make for a huge tone coming out of the amp.

It honestly sounds like you are looking for a Voodoo Labs Giggity. It should do what you are asking for.

Cool suggestions. Anyone have experience with these as a boost out front?

Have you tried a straight up clean boost like the Suhr Iso boost.
They just make the signal louder...any kind of OD will add clipping which equals some level of compression.
The clean boost just makes it stronger.
i would also try reducing preamp gain and cranking the master...should expand the sound stage and remove compression.

I don't care for the straight clean boosts. My amps are good. I was just curious if anything existed that would do what I was asking.

My worry would be that you might venture into Sonic Maximizer territory with your description. Those units do add seperation your notes and compress them, but we also know what else they do.... :powpow: :D

I KNOW that's not what you want, but with your description that's where my mind goes.

  I hated that thing. It doesn't even deserve paperweight status.

I think you need a special pickup that will send the signal from each string to a different amp ;)

I think what you want fundamentaly comes from an amps individual natural voicing and gain structure.
So the only way to get that right now would be to go amp shopping.
Again, probably not an option.

Real happy with my amps and guitars. When I have small bouts of GAS I now direct it at pedals, tubes, pickups instead of expensive guitars and amps.

After years of chasing high gain from the chassis only I found some specific pedal combinations that work for me personally none of them boutique either.

I almost always ended up boosting the high gain amps, either by turning the amp gain on the high gain channel down or by using the "medium" gain channel and boosting regardless.

Spent alot of money to find that out...lol.
