Just today I spotted a Boss CS-3 Chorus Ensemble pedal, and bought it for a (locally) cheap price.

It sounded pretty good when I tried it. Had a good range of Rate, nice and slow. I have a H2O Liquid Chorus and Echo that easily does the faster wobble Leslie sounds as well as slow.

Most of what I read about this pedal has been relatively negative. I usually prefer the darker warmer sounding chorus sound, rather than the 'tinkly' bright-sounding ones. The pedal did sound a little bit bright, but I feel I can tame that with amp settings or if required just run an EQ pedal with it.

Has anyone here used the CE-3? Is it worth modding it to get rid of any inherent 'high end tinkle' if I desire a darker sound?
Also is it worth doing a bass mod on it, so it'll be like a Boss CE-2B? Ideally I'd like to use this for distorted chorus sounds, even though I'm currently happy with using a Rockman Stereo Chorus/Delay set on a slow speed & low mix to do the job.

I just traded away my vintage CE-2. Great chorus effect, but really noisy and a big tone sucker.

I've tried the CE-3, nice as well, but somewhat flat and weak sounding compared to my old CE-2.

I'm officially done with Chorus effects though.

I tried the CE-3 today with an old Marshall amp head and it wasn't too noisy, even with the amp cranked up a bit. No big swooshy noise anyway.

I've just read a modification provided by Fromel Electronics, who also builds his own chorus pedal and other effects. They provide a BYO mod kit that I guess would fix that flat weak sound you described?
