Now.. I use mine in the loop but I'm not happy with it in general, doesn't seem to really give me the tone shaping I want, I mid boost it slightly and run it as a solo boost.

Sixtonoize in another thread mentioned it sucking in the loop but being great up front? I hope not because this means I'm gonna have to reset my floor plan!

Opinions, Rigtalk!

Noisy and sucks tone. I prefer the Dano Fish n Chips. I always use rack effects in the loop, so I can't help with that issue.

I was under the assumption that the added gain from the boost/cutting of frequencies and volume made all EQs noisy? it's not something I know alot about.

and yeah, I agree it definitely sucks tone, it's the only EQ pedal I've used propperly though.

I have a made in japan, it is noisy, but in front of a Marshall it can be pure bliss

This.

Love my Dano EQ. Don't leave home without it.

I have had one for years. Its a decent pedal. It is a little hissy, but you can mod if for $10, and it will be as quiet as anything else.

I have the Dano also. It is a good pedal, but the sliders dont have as much range, even though they are marked the same as the Boss. weird.

As far as your use, I guess I dont know what you are asking. It will do what an EQ does, lol. In the Loop you will dramatic changes, and before the amp will be like changing pickups, or OD pedals.

Well I was enquiring about loop/vs upfront really. I'll edit my OP. :)

Do you have a link to the mod instructions? I'm going to mod my SD-1, might aswell do it as well.

I have them saved somewhere, but the basic thing to do is replace all the op-amps. Just put sockets in there and plug in whatever is quietest. I think I settled on the 5532 years ago. TL072 might be good also. Or the best would probably be those expensive Brown Burr chips.

You can replace some caps and such, but the op-amps will do most of it.

Up front, it will basically act like a clean OD pedal. You can shape it however, and boost the level. It is generally good if you want a more natural, and less compressed booster than an OD pedal.

Well I'd really like it for subtle tone shaping with volume up for solos, but without taking away from my tone or making loads of noise. I have a compressor up front and a boost, so I think I'd like something different. I wish my SD-1 had a ton more volume, could use it for solos then.

I use a MXR 10 band EQ set flat in the loop for solos and it doesn't change the original tone at all. No noise either. Just boost the level a little and it easily gets me out in front of the other guitar player in the band.

Cheap mods to make them quieter are worth it. I've always found if run in the loop, just do a flat boost or a slight scoop. If you run it out front, then the mid curve is better. For some reason (at least to me) that mid boost in the loop makes it not real pleasing to my ears. Just leave it flat/scoop for a volume boost and it should pretty much just sound like your amp got louder. If you hit the front end, I kind of run the "right of center" mid curve, so it's a tad more upper mids that I boost and it sounds great.

I use a fish in chips EQ in the loop if my amp has one, otherwise out front after the dirt boxes.

I would mod or get the GE7 modded. Stock, I prefer the fish and chips EQ.

Yeah, I generally cut in the loop, and boost in front of the amp.

Typical for metal is to /\ in front of the amp, and \/ in the loop.

I had one years ago and never had the noise issues in the loop. Up font you'll definitely get noise & it will only increase with the more you alter the tone. That's the case with every other eq I've used up front: PQ3, MXR 10, & TC 1140. The PQ3 was definitely the noisest up front while the TC has been the quietest.

For a volume increase & tonal change for solos I'd think the loop would be best. Is the tone suckage when it's off? Is you're loop not switchable?

I hate that pedal in the loop (never tried a modded one thouth).

Not bad in front, as a boost, but there are other pedals I prefer for boosting.

Highly reccomend the MXR 10 band EQ for the loop

I all around hated it. Noisy and colored the tone in a bad way, even flat. I prefer the Fish 'N Chips, athough graphic eqs for guitar all seem to suck to some degree. I recently put an MXR 10 band on a board, and of course, it fucked up the feel and sound. I put a Radial Dragster after it in the chain and the problem was fixed for the most part. Impedance issue I'm guessing...

If you don't mind modding your own pedals get the Monte Allums kit. It quiets it down and the components you replace make it sound really good..at least to my ears, the mod isn't hard to do.

http://monteallums.com/pedal_mods.html#bossge7

I use it in the front for my JTM-45 with a mid-range hump and I really like what it does.Cant speak to tone shaping in the loop.
