GM-800 is $749.99

Needs a new GK-5 pickup ($249.99), needs converter box (GK-AD, $199.99) to work with older 13-pin GK devices; if you have GK-3 and older instruments, you need a different converter box (GK-DA, $199.99), looks like it uses a standard TRS cable? You're looking at nearly $1550 list to go all in on the Boss/Roland Guitar Synths and use the older 13-pin gear too.

At least the new GK-5 pickup is smaller and more streamlined, FINALLY!

It sounds great. The GK-5, I can't seem to find a specific answer, but can you use any old TRS cable with it? Or is there something special about the "Boss Serial GK 1/4 Cable?"

Because if you can use a standard 1/4 cable, that's absolutely huge. I HATE the multi-pin GK cables I have on my GK-3. I don't use my GR-55 much but it is a really cool piece of kit with endless possibilities. The biggest issue I have besides the cables is not having a PC companion program to design patches with, besides the user-made one. An official Boss app to pair with the GM-800 and let me design patches live via USB or something would be amazing. Makes sense to bring this tech up to date, for a while I was thinking they were never going to do another GK/synth ever again.

A lot of money to buy those converter boxes. I'd just get GK-5's and switch over entirely, and ditch the GR-55 I bet. Oh, and no expression pedal on the GM800, but it looks like you can add it later via 1/4" too

I have a SY-200 and like it a lot more than I should... makes the intro to things like Mr Crowley, or Jump so cool.

This is definitely overkill for me, but sure would be fun.
