It's by some independent guy who came up with this and started his own little company for it a couple years ago or so.

From what I remember it was red in color, had an LCD screen, and was totally programmable and configurable.

I think it cost about $1500.

Anybody know what it's called, or what the name of the company is?

Man I listened to the clips and this thing smokes my POD XT Pro, the effects sound really freaking nice and a modeler that cleans up with the volume pretty darn well.

Hot damn!

I have never checked these out yet.

Sound clips sound great and I just perused the manual and it looks VERY interesting.

I may need one   :P :D

i wished i woulda picked one up when he was blowing them out for $900 or so. believe it was last years model or something.

I really like it! Much better than the other pod based stuff!

thats what I was thinking of. Definitly not red, but definitly bad ass. How do you like yours so far?

Man, I only have a little time on it, I had some things to do last night, so I've only put a little over an hour on it.... Which, 95% of that was rolling through the stock presets and just getting familiar with the interface.

So far, I REALLY like it. The models are quite interesting, a different world than my Line 6 stuff, but that's my opinion. They feel a bit more alive, there's tons more control, and they seem clearer if that makes any sense.

I'll definitely post something when I've had proper time in with the unit. I'm in the middle of some demo work for the band, so if I can get it tweaked up fast, I'm gonna try and use it as much as I can since it can be done direct, meaning I can work a lot more hours while others need quite. :)

No worries man, yeah, HC's not really the place to go for info. :) I know one or two other guys here with Axe-FXs, a ton on Huge Rack Inc, and there's the Axe-FX message board too.

Cliff,
Thank you guys for a great product and putting up with antsy customers. I'm really digging the unit... Like I said above, I haven't put a ton of time on it yet, but I'm noticing some major cool points that are going to help me out.

Peace.

Add to that, a modeler that takes pedals well too. :) I haven't busted any out yet, but I've been told by a bunch of the guys I've been getting info from that they like the way it handles them a lot.

Scott, if you're ever in town, we gotta hang anyway, but you need to try this thing out.

Peace bro.

the thing that amazes me most about it is it just seems to ooze quality!! i wonder if he ever plans on just making an effects unit. i bet it would give eventide a run for it's money.

does anyone remember gary's(riffy) clips of that thing? schweeet!

Well, I think there's a "lite" version of the processor in the works, read an interview about it somewhere... But, to be honest man, this would be the one to go for if that's what you're looking for. The only difference between this one and an FX-only unit would probably be the removal of the amp sim code. I'm pretty sure he'd use the same DSP and same converters... so, price would probably be near the same, just less options.

Now, I'm not trying to put words in his mouth at all, take this for what it is, my opinion and conjecture... But, it just makes sense to me that there isn't much advantage to limiting the unit since it will likely not drop the price.

The setup is all modular, so if you don't want to use the amp and cab sims, you just don't drop the modules in the matrix... instant FX-only box. Another advantage I'm looking into is the fact that you can set the unit up with the 4-cable method... putting a section before the amp pre and a section in the loop... So, if you wanna run amp sims and FX, the signal will just be routed to the FX loop return on the amp... if you wanna run your amp pre with FX, that can be routed as well.

Just my thoughts, YMMV.

ok, i had no idea about that. that's pretty sweet.

Yeah man, I know there aren't a ton in the field right now comparatively, but Cliff is cranking them out everyday. Maybe jump on HRI or the Axe-FX board and see if there's anyone near you that you could try it out and get a demo from them. Once you get it in front of you, things start to click a lot and you see how it could work for you... this is coming from the guy who reads the manual a couple months before the product arrives. :)

In theory it is an effects unit, it just has amp and cabinet "effects" as well. Many people are using them just for the effects. The effects are not compromised like in a typical modeler. The effects easily rival those of high-end products.
