Brace Audio wireless going back

A little pissed off but I'm most likely sending the Brace Audio wireless back. When using it without a boost, it was fine...but when engaging my SD-1, there was MASSIVE hiss. I contacted Brace and the best answer they could give me was to turn the overdrive off or all the way down...or throw a noise gate in front of the amp. I can't turn the overdrive off or down since that would defeat my tone. I tried a noise gate and it didn't help at all...so back it goes. They also told me their noise floor was much less than samson and other companies but I've never encountered this problem before with any other wireless system.

I want to make this work but I don't see any other solution to this problem. Anyone here use this system with high gain and not have this problem? It was unbearable.

Yeah...not too happy about it but that's the breaks. It seemed to work well if I didn't use high gain/od in front of the amp. If I do, it's unusable.

Ack! I was really hoping it would fair better as I have been eying one myself and haven't had a chance to borrow my friends. He loves it with his bass, but of course he isn't running the same sort of effects as you would on a guitar.

Well, guess its time to look at the Line6 Relay series again. The G50 is supposed to be great and the only complaint I really hear about it is that it uses a proprietary cable, from guitar to pack, rather than the 1/4 to 1/4 standard that the G30 uses. The G50 has been out for quite a while now so maybe places like LavaCable are making replacement/upgraded cables for it now...

Do you have any clips of your most recent rig in action? I am really curious about how your CAE boost works with the DSL as I'm looking for a good boost myself.

I'll be using my current rig for the first time tomorrow night in Boston. The boost is great...very transparent. I might take a look at the G30...the 50 is too expensive for a wireless....I don't need one that bad.

I have the G50 relay, works great, uses AA batteries, pretty much get a gig and a half (three sets a gig) out of it. Haven't had any drop outs, have played outdoor gigs, bar gigs, used it at home, etc.

Hey Pete how is the guitar pack portion of the G50? Do you have any problems with it staying put on your strap?

I change guitars too much to put it on my strap, so I just attach it to my belt or back of my pants with the clip, works fine. The cord is about the right length too, some wireless cords are much longer than they should be.

Another  for the G50. Awesome unit. Solid metal construction on the transmitter and receiver and great battrey life as already mentioned. I got some better transmitter pack cables for it through lavacables.com I got some Mogami and Canare with Neutrik connectors. Can't say enough about this unit. Totally transparent in my rig. Have done several outdoor festival type shows with big stages and it hasn't let me down.

I'm probably picking up a G30 today. I don't run off stage too much so that should be fine for me. Read only good things about it.

Could have told you this before! Really, the Brace is just NOT a good wireless, get the Line6 or a Sennheiser/Sony.

I had a similar experience. The unit was just noisy. The recommendation was to turn down the gain. I sent it back. The company was pleasant to deal with though and stood behind their product. They said they were working on a new version with improved A/D/A converters and lower noise floor.

Yes, they were pretty nice about it. I just don't get how you release a product DESIGNED for guitar (and bass) players without fully testing it for high gain stuff.

You may want to look into an older VHF wireless like a Samson SR22.
Now that all these wireless units are digital, they lack a lot of warmth and many problems from what I have seen.
Plus, you can get one cheap on the bay.
Mine has never failed me, and I get the same tone as if I use a cable.
YMMV

I had a samson years ago. The problem is that all those old units are meant to be rack mounted. I'm looking for something to put on my board so I can have it for any fly dates.

The SR22 is about the size of a video tape. They did make a bracket for it for a rack, but you can just velcro it to your board.

my board can basically fit one more pedal at this point. I just had to downsize form a pt-pro to a pt-1. Perfect size.

Have you checked out the Line6 stuff? Even the generation before the relays sound great. I had a Sennheiser that was much more expensive and the L6 stuff is better sounding.

I've been playing 26 years and have never owned a wireless. Cables for me. Even on big stages.

In theory they're cool.......but.
