I have a charvel with a brass trem, alder body, and maple fingerboard. I am currently playing through a Marshall jvm. I am looking for a bridge humbucker to compliment the natural high eq the guitar has. I have a Duncan perpetual burn as of right now. I don't have a particular brand loyalty or need of a particular output. Open to all suggestions. Right now my toan...slices :D

SD Custom, Custom 5, Custom Custom, all less bright than a JB from my memory. DiMarzio Tone Zone, 36th anniversary, also less bright...MCP Afwayu is the only MCP I've had but its like the perfect pickup for a Charvel IMO. Had one in a Charvel custom. Hard to find though. Good luck!

I used to have a JVM, keep the presence and treble down especially with a 1960 cabinet.
I've pickup swapped so many times now and gone through so much solder that now I just work the controls on my amps and pedals harder to get where I want.
Having said that, Bare Knuckle Holydiver has a rounded, sweeter top end to it while adding some beef in the low mids. Dimarzio Super Distortion is a classic Charvel option without a ton of treble.

Tone Zone or Air Norton will do that IME.

this or a dimarzio Airzone which I have in my all maple guitar and it slays

I've used a Tone Zone and Air Zone on a couple of different bright guitars and worked very well taming the brightness

I swear at least one of these threads come up a week here and we all answer it over and over again... I suppose it is like just about any thread here. We are an Ol boys club... Anyway the short list:

Change the neck, go rosewood OR dimarzio super distortion, air zone, tone zone, AT-1 or go to a 250 or 300k pot and use whatever pickup you want! :p

You are absolutely right. Same with EVH/Cameron/Blades threads.

Anyway, I'm in the same situation. I have this lovely Charvel with alder body and maple neck that is too bright. The Tone Zone did not work for me. I swapped it for a JB with 250k pot. That is much better IMHO. I still think it could be better, so I have the AT-1 on order. Actually I considered the Perpetual Burn, haha. Are you sure about the Super Distortion? Looking at the specs it would accentuate the highs

  Next week I will start a thread on van Halen 1 amp being modded or stock...that's never been talked about any forum...period.

Nope my spanky STRAT got tamed by the super distortion. It is really thick. But as I mentioned the vol pot switch is huge and the AT-1 will definitely do it for you with the 250k vol pot. I just changed my neck to a rosewood board and now can rock an Aldrich

The SD Custom 5 is my favorite pickup for a bright guitar. Very warm pickup with a lot of clarity.

-the DIMARZIO SUPER DISTORTION is bass voiced-(there's a freq graph on there site, like all pup sites I suppose)-

-my choice would be a D-SONIC-

Guitarforce pickups. Very good products at affordable prices. He will point you to the best match based on what you have and what you are after or will tweak any model.

I think I've settled on a MCP AFWAYU for my ash/maple Floyd Strat.

Afwayu hands down. Darkest thickest thing i ever played.

Very happy with the Rio Grande BBQ bucker in my maple neck-thru, alder body Peavey. Nice and warm, but not lacking highs.
