Broken Ultimate Attenuator worth it?

So, I have a chance to get a UA for peanuts, but here's the trick: it doesn't give any signal out when the attenuator is on, nothing (that's how the seller described it to me). It powers up ok and the fan works just fine, but it's totally muted when switched on.

My question is: does anyone know if it's worth to pay a few € (less than $70) for it, can it be fixed, anyone in the know about these things?

Seems like a bargain if you know how to fix it. I don't think they"re all that complicated.

Hehe I have no knowledge of things electrical other than changing the tubes in my amps or pickups in my guitars, but our soundguy does have a formal training in some kind of electronics.

Apparently it's been serviced by a reputable tech, they've changed a resistor or sthing and it's worked fine for a while and now it's dead again.

I must say I'm very tempted to snag it and take it to our soundguy to check it out, may be email the manufacturer in the hope of getting some insight with the problem.

That is a $70 gamble that you will have to decide on.

But, if you do decide to send it away to be repaired, send it to HO Attenuators, who actually originally designed and built them. He actually still builds them (cheaper than UA), but has worked out an agreement with UA to use his design. Just Google HO ATTENUATOR, to read more.

And no, I am not kidding about the name. But maybe your soundguy will open it up and immediately see the problem, and you would not have to send it off.

Ho is legit. I own one of his attenuators and he is very helpful on the phone. Maybe he can give you an estimate on repair. Just consider that he lives in Canada as that may increase your costs to ship it to him.

As for his website, look up hoelectronics.com
He has an older site out there that is really outdated.

Thanks guys! I sent Ho a shout through his feedback form, I hope it still works.

At the moment I'm leaning towards snagging the broken UA and seeing what comes out of the deal.
