Be sure to watch the end of the video! - Steve Senes demonstrates how easy it is to dial in a sound similar to Eddie Van Halen's celebrated "Brown Sound". The amp is a Marshall DSL100 with the "Senes Mod". All overdrive is from the amp & no overdrive pedals were used. Speakers used are Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30's & HM75's loaded in an X-pattern & loaded in a 1979 Marshall 4x12" cab. The cab is mic'd with (2) Sennheiser e609 Silver mics & recorded with Apple Logic Pro. Guitar used is an ESP LTD EC1000 w/Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge & 59 in the neck position.

This Mod can be installed into several amps! DSL/TSL's, Plexi reissues, JCM800s & many more.

Sweet! My DSL's didn't get anywhere near brown!

What does that mod entail (PPIMV, extra tubes, etc)?

Sounds good. To me it had a little to much distortion :)

True. You can always turn DOWN the gain though. And the JB is a really hot pickup too, so a lower output PAF type would sound closer still!

But the voice of the amp is browner!

A little less gain but I'd say that sounds as good as anything out there at the moment and definitely sounds brownER than DSL's typically do.

i wouldn't call this a Brown sound, but it's a fuckin' nice tone nevertheless. I love Trace's work, I still have an Egnater EG5 module he modded.
I can see this sound with a lower output pickup or a good single coil, that would probably get closer to Brown

I like the extra gain personally. Plus it would help hide my sloppy technique.
