BUDDA amps.

I have bought and sold LOTS of amps. I had a SD45II that was fantastic, one of the few that I still regret selling.

I'm not denying that that Budda sounds awesome, but that's nothing the SL module can't handle...

The big thing with the budda's is how they feel. They sound great, but have a different feel than a lot of amps I've played. A little looser response. Probably a combination of the preamp and power amp. With the right power section I think Nick is right--SL could handle that no problem.

They also have tube rectifiers which are known to give a spongier feel, which I like. Thta could account for that "feel" thing you are talking about. I have played Buddas and always like the way they sound.

the superdrive 45 allows you to use either a solid state rectifier or a tube rectifier, I always prefered my gain channels with a ss rectifier. I really like the Budda amps, I prefer the 45 to the SD30 because of the KT66's.

That vid sounds more than somewhat similar to the SL IMO, definitely the module to get if you want to cop that tone.

I had an SD80 and I loved it.......it was a monster man!! I'd get another one for sure, but with Jeff and Bruce coming up with new shit, I have to save my $$ for that!!!

I've noticed in the past and now here on this thread that Egnater fans tend to have favorable opinions of Budda amps. Some common ground here for sure I feel.

Personally my SL+ sounds more organic and is easier to play than any of the Budda's I owned...They are a one trick pony compared to the Egnater and Randall modular amps.....sort of going backwards....just my opinion from a guy that used to own WAY to many amps
The EG4 is very Budda SD-18 sounding, but with more gain available

I agree with Rod. The Budda's sound fantastic, but for sheer tone/versatility, the Eggie's can't be beat.

BUDDA just got sold to Peavey, I wonder if they will change?
Supposedly, they are built the same and sound the same....It's PCB construction...no big deal

Speaking of hand wired and well made...I'd like to try a Cornford.

Budda talk in the Eggy forum is "prohibited at all times"please keep your hands and feet in the tram at all times please and enjoy the ride :D

In addition to my Rebel 30, I have a Mesa Lonestar. The Lonestar has a rectifier switch that allows me to choose between the tube rectifier or the diode. I actually prefer the diode because of the tighter response, but the difference is very very slight.

Funny, I have a friend coming in town next week who is bringing a Budda SD II 18 head.

We are planning a mini ampfest at the house with my M4, Mod 50 and his Budda. If it happens, I'll report back.

Budda SD II 18 is a totally different animal from the Mod 50! A fairer comparison would be the Budda SD 45.
