Ok guys I know I have been asking a ton of questions lately but it seems I'm on the look-out again. Anyone have any experience with an SD-80?? Does it NEED a boost for any type of 80's rock/metal or can it do a good job on its' own??? I dont mind using a boost but I like it to be optional, not a must.T he amp seems to be voiced to my preference, how much darker is it then say a Marshall slp? Also does the amp have good attack and dynamics? Do the notes jump??? Thanks for the input.

Yes I got one. Love it. Great amp.
It's got a good deal of gain on tap, but I REALLY like it with a SD-1 and a guitar with a Duncan Distortion. 80's wet dream...
The amp is fat yet percussive. Very cool amp.

The SD80 is one amp i guess i just don't get. I heard one at the NY ampshow and i couldn't walk out of the room fast enough, nasty high end that was really harsh sounding. It was on a 2x12 though. I played one at SteveVHT's once and didn't like that one either. Oh well.

Here's mine... With an SD-1 and some delay.
Sounds great to me.

Great-sounding amp. It works very well with my GB-loaded Mojotone.
Is that their Marshall-style 4x12?

Yup. 4x12 salt-pepper grill. Well made. Good cab.
Great Cabs. I have two with the check grillcloth. One has H30s and the other has H30s & K100s in an x pattern. My favorite cabs to date.

I saw that clip on youtube and it sounds GREAT! Now how much attack/sustain would you loose if you kick the sd-1 off??? Thats the sounds that I'm wondering about.

You don't lose much attack and sustain. The amp sounds terrific on its own. It's not like a low-gain amp or anything. Gain-wise, I'd say it's somewhere between the XTC Blue Channel w/boost and the XTC Red Channel without boost. But the pedal tightens it up a bit and makes it more late 80's.

Well I have a 101b that I'm trying to sell so I know exactly where your at gain wise. That is not bad at all and certainly not low gain. Thanks for the help!

Exactly. It's kinda got that same Vintage High-Gain thing going on.

I have the SD45 and yes it has plenty of gain on tap(everyone's favorite saying) for 80's metal. I also use a modded SD-1 for a boost to tighten it up for newer metal tones. Clean channel is great too and the effects loop works just like it should.

What didnt you like about the amp Dave? if you dont mind me askin? My only big issue with it is that I am not a fan of amps made upside down , a la Bassman   I'm just wierd when it comes to certain things..

Hey Johnny, you digging it with the 6L6's? Did you try any other tube sets? The 45 slays with EL34's.
