Hey guys! Just wondering if any of you guys have played either the Budda Super Drive 45 or 80? I'm on the quest for a new amp, and wondering how much gain is on tap with the SD amps. I need enough for some good chunk for rhythm playing. I can always use my TS-9 for boosting solos, but I need at least enough distortion for thick rhythm stuff.

Thanks for the help!

Joel

See ratter and I believe Vrad has one. Mike aka ratter has had like 3 of them. Killer rock amps. I put them in the same class as the Bogner Shiva and Mesa Electra Dyne. Great cleans with very nice crunch/gain channels.

I have an SD80 and I really dig that amp. What do you want to know about it?

Here's a very quick YouTube clip for you:

I owned/gigged with a SD45 for a while. They're excellent amps. It's kinda like Marshall meets Vox. Plenty of gain on tap and a great clean channel as well. It takes pedals great and the fx loop sounds awesome. Never played a SD80 to compare though. You probably wouldn't go wrong with either.

I can't decided if I want the 80 or the 45. Either of the two should be loud enough for a drummer. Vrad, I think your clip just sold me on one. Now I just need to move the TriAmp...

That was boosted with an MIJ SD-1. But it's a terrific amp dude. I dig it alot!

I briefly considered one but after watching many unboosted clips on youtube I decided to pass because of the exact reason you're wondering about. They seem like great classic rock amps and maybe a little heavier but for the sort of music you play Joel, I honestly don't see it working for you bro...but good luck...if you do get one I wanna hear it live as I've always been curious about them myself.

Vrad, what amp would you compair the non boosted gain closest to? Will get get to Jubilee levels of distortion without the boost? From the clips that I've heard it sounds like it definately has more gain than a JCM800... which if that is the case, it will more than do what I need it to do.

It has more than either of the 2 JCM800 2203Xs I had.

More gain than a Jubilee. More gain than a stock 800. Picture a hot-rodded Plexi. Not modern high gain though. I think I'd put it in the ball park of the XTC Blue Channel with the boost engaged. But its been a while since I had an XTC so I could be off a bit

I had a SD80 for awhile, great amp. Listen to any Buckcherry record and you get the feel of the amp. Also there are some Youtubes of Leslie West Playing a SD45 that are cool. Here is mine from back in the day. S/N #1 SD80 in White.

Yep. But at the same time, it's got less hair and teeth than a Marshall, IMO. Rounder, more low-mid, clearer. Great amp. I haven't tried a 45 but I've played or owned every other Budda made (some multiple times!). The 80 is the big daddy of the bunch in every way. Plus a great clean and a no-fuss loop. And self-biasing.

Yes it's smoother with more low mids.
I love the way the amp is designed. It's got everything I need and nothing I don't.

I love my SD45. I think it has more gain than my JCM800, and it responds well to pedals. Probably my favorite channel switching amp. Goes well with a BB Preamp!

I have the SD 45, killer amp and has a great effects loop. If you want more modern high gain tones, get a Suhr Riot pedal and run into clean channel. I just picked one up. It has a bit tighter bass and more gain than the Budda OD channel. Just a littler more modern sounding. And, I could not imagine any time when anyone would need more volume than this thing brings!

if you dig , there is a sick video clip of bonamassa running through the SD45, some of the leads i heard in that clip really made me gas for one-- but its never really been one of those "i-have-to-have-it" amps.
