A friend mentioned to me a few weeks ago the track Sorrow from the Pink Floyd album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Specifically that the opening guitar riff was recorded on a small amp and replayed through Pink Floyd's quad PA System in an LA stadium.
Once I started researching it I found that the live versions from the PULSE tour I liked so much better than the recorded version.
This led me to the website Gilmourish.com where all of Dave's live and recording setups are detailed.
Already owning since I ordered it from the factory in 1983 a Fullerton '57 reissue Stratocaster in black which is mint+ condition still it being the guitar I have owned the longest, 31 years and light as a feather and a tone monster, I love the stock pickups and even with this recent Gilmour influence I don't plan on swapping them out for EMG's!
All this leads to an incredible pedal which is around the seventh version of the EH Big Muff.
This one is from when they were Sovtek and are nicknamed "Civil War" due to the paint scheme on the case..blue and grey or Civil War colors.
These pedals are huge sounding and a specialist manufacturer named Steve Painter who is British though living in France has built a previous germanium transistor version (more a Fuzz Face replica) and a replica of the Color Sound Tone Booster 18V pedal. Also The Ram's Head with NOS BC239c transistors.
Under Fuzz pedals he offers the Germanium Fuzz V2 and the CV111 Silicon Fuzz.
Having come up in the day with original DA Fuzz Face and original Pro Co Ratt pedals, the smoothness and sustain of the Big Muff has always intrigued me.
Plugging the Patriot pedal in, it is 100% hand built as are all of Buffalo's products. The Patriot uses special Russian diodes featured in the Sovtek Muffs.

This pedal without delays or compressors, choruses or Tube Drivers or rotary speaker effects absolutely nails the much sought after Gilmour sound from this era.
This was when Dave was using the red '83 '57 reissue Strat with the EMG SA's.
Here are some demos and some live Floyd:

I cannot more highly recommend a pedal, buying old Big Muffs is chancey at best and they all sound different.
