Hi guys!

Wondering if i need to have both on my pedalboard? (i have 5 pedals and 40 feet of cable)

My idea is to have both ON all the time, buffer to clean an enhance my signal and booster to fat my sound a little bit. is this correct?

both pedals at the beginning of my chain? any suggestions on what to do and what to buy?

thanks so much!!

No, just and overdrive pedal

Yeah but it has a buffer built in. So does your Boss pedal. Basically any pedal that is not true bypass is a buffer AFAIK. IDK much about it but that is what I thought.

maybe there are better buffers people use? I am currently building my first board so idk much about it. Don't quote me but that is what I read online.

Any non-true bypass pedal is a buffer, but ONLY when it is on.
If you want something you can keep on all the time as a buffer and a boost,
something like an Xotic EP Booster would be perfect.

Um, does not make sense. If its 'ON', then its doing something that its meant for and the question of buffer does not come into the picture. When its off, a non-true bypass pedal will "try" to maintain the same signal through the pedal and in that effort will color the tone a bit as well as boost it a bit depending on how "boutique" it is. :D

Jhs prestige is a good buffer and has a boost. I have one on my board.

If you have an always-on clean boost, you probably don't also need a buffer.

Wampler dB+ is another good one. And the latest version is small.

I like my Koko Boost Reloaded first in my chain. Buffer, clean boost, and mid boost all in a pedal the size of an MXR box.

I like having a buffer at the front. I use a JHS buffer ($80 new) at the beginning of my chain. It has no buttons, it's just in the path and on. It also splits the signal so I have my Tuner out of the main path. I use overdrive pedals for boost and I always have at least 1 of them on (several overdrive pedals in the chain).

Having the buffer at the very beginning is a good idea, but there are no right or wrong answers.
