Hey Fellas , I'm buying a used guitar on Reverb that was built before 2017 that has an Indian Rosewood fretboard , I am in the U.S. and It will be shipped to me from the seller in Switzerland. The seller is very responsive but we are not sure about all the regulations, He is willing to go through the process to get an export permit but we do not know if I need an import permit.

The seller thinks I do not because we are dealing with Indian rosewood and not Brazilian , I cant find enough information online so far. Has anyone gone through this already and can shed some light on what I need to do if anything ? I dont want the guitar getting held up or confiscated by customs .

:)

I sold a bunch on rosewood borded guitars lately and did not have any problems, lucky?

Canada to US though.

Such bullshit.

I get guitars from Asia with no issues but I had a guitar from Europe inspected by DHS/Customs.

Supposedly in May the CITES may exempt completed musical instruments.

You will need the below.
You will need him to have an invoice stating exactly what it is, as well as a Homeland CF 106 Form which shows your Social Security Number for import, as well as the fish and wildlife Lacey act form stating the amount of each wood naming each wood by it's latin genus. fwiw worth you can kind of just do your best on the Lacey act form. You can find sample ones around online. That's what I did. Send him these forms for the pouch on the box. I had guitars held up and then had to scramble to get these docs to the shipper.
