Buying directly from Gibson

Gibson has these exclusive models that can only be purchased directly from them. I saw a couple of Les Pauls that caught my attention.

When you purchase directly from them, is it simply luck of the draw, or do they have a few you can select from based on top, weight etc?

Anyone ever purchase directly from Gibson?
 
I have 2x, the 2nd time I asked for pics-NoGo. They'd be happy to allow a return for any reason was the response. Both are awesome, and I probably would not have picked them based on pics, or wieght (LP 50s plain top a little heavy).
 
I have one time and didn't think to ask for pics to choose but I'm happy with what they sent. If you haven't purchased a new Gibson in last few years, I hope you like pretty small frets. What they call "medium jumbo" is a joke.
