It's basically this.

Of course you should transcribe your own solos, it's an important tool for both your ear and finding out what makes your favourite players tick (I'm doing a Miles solo right now that is just killing me, and Amazing Slow Downer IS my friend).

Yeah, of course it's his work and he has the right to pass it out or not. But the sole purpose of his post in the thread was "Now, I've got it, but I'm not giving it to you. Also, Guthrie and I are soooooo tight."

I don't see the harm in sharing something if it helps somebody else at no cost to yourself. Not like it's the keys to the kingdom.

Not to be a dick, but you really didn't help at all, besides saying "go learn it yourself."

The way I approached tabs and shit like that is if I'm learning something by a new musician/band. I'll use a tab for the first song so I can get a feel of how they work, then I'll just do the rest myself.

uh no. its because i spent a TON of time on it and i rather not have it all online. I would be glad to help someone out anytime. if you or anyone else needed help with a part of a song i would have no problem helping you out, just not doing it for you.. I dont want to contribute to the "Lazy guitarists" as Greg Howe once said of how guitarist have to many resources nowadays. Your comment was kind of harsh.

Interesting post. As much as Im a transcribing fanatic, I would always share my transcriptions regardless of the content...I was lucky to have Uli Jon Roth endorse and sign a transcription of one his solo's and shared with the Sky Academy...some players were not willing too. Pat Metheny was SUPER anal and reluctant about providing transcriptions for his music until he finally did publish one, no tab though. Ed's first post says it all.

Thank you rsm thats part of what i was trying to say. And shebby already knows i will help him and we have already been chatting in the pms about his song he wants me to transcribe (btw shebby ill get that to you soon). Really this was a total misunderstanding.

I know you have reading issues, but did you not see that my issue was not with him not sharing the transcription, but the way he said it in his initial post? I said that it was his right to give or not to give a bunch of times.

whatever you guys want it that bad. fine. pm me with your email. I just thought it would be beneficial for you guys to do it yourself. I didnt mean to be like oh i have this and i wont share it. In fact i said that i would help anyone out with parts of the song if they needed it. I wasnt trying to say any of what you guys false quoted me with. I spent a TON of time on this (MANY MONTHS!) and wrote out a full rough draft and final draft for my Berklee audition. And in result of doing the transcription i received a scholarship and got to meat Guthrie. I was just trying to show that if you put hard work into something you will get rewarded for it. I just felt that putting it online would be gloating about myself because my name is on it. I really dont appreciate you guys bashing me like that.

You seem like a good dude, and I don't think you meant your original post the way some interpreted it.

However... when you come into a thread where someone is asking for a CD transcription and say that you have some of the CD transcribed but won't give said transcriptions to the requester, some people are going to give you some shit, regardless of whether you are offering some nebulous "help" with certain parts or making another point. It appears to me that your main point was that the requester transcribing it himself would be a valuable and rewarding experience and as you can tell from my post, I agree. Why not just say that though and leave out the fact that you've got what he asked for? See what I'm saying? It's like velcro said - what you don't say is sometimes just as important as what you do say... That said, this is getting blown WAY out of proportion because either way this should be no big deal and there is no reason you should have to share the fruits of your labor if you don't wish to. My 2 cents...
