I just saw that BYOC released their version of the Silver Klon Centaur. Long wanted to try a Klon. Recently considered an EH Soul Food, but from the demos of the EH Soul food, it sounded more like the red Klon KTR than the Silver or gold versions to me.

Anyone tried the Silver Pony yet?

Also, I know the Klon was originally designed to go in front of an amp on the edge of breakup, but has anyone had any success with it boosting an amps gain channel or another dirt box. From the clips most seem to use it in front of a clean amp, which is surprising since I always have read it does best as a boost.

Found this picture, which I good laugh out of....

In the YouTube vid on the product page, the clone sounds harsher and not as transparent

Thanks for posting this. The Silver Pony actually sounds a little better than the KLON. It's just as transparent, with a ever so slightly accentuated bottom.

I didn't hear any difference in transparency or harshness, I will have to listen again.

I am open for suggestions on other Clones to check out, not set on the Silver Pony, though I like the price.

I was playing through a Bose system and that's what I took away from it. YMMV

The Soul Food in unbearably bright and neutered the bass. If that's what Klons sound like, then it's not for me.

Also interested in a jhs modified Soul Food.

Just finished building the silver pony yesterday. So far really impressed. Sounds great boosting my masco ma50 amp that was just breaking up. What really impressed me was how it sounded into my fender bandmaster reverb. The fender was running clean and pretty low volume, so the silver pony was my only source of gain, it sounded great this way. Just thickened up my strat, loved how subtle the gain knob was, the gain comes on gradually, on many dirt boxes it's hard to find that edge of breakup spot, not so with the silver pony.

Overall I am very impressed. I am also a big Timmy fan and I see using this similar to how I use the Timmy, in that I will kick it on for the low gain clean parts and use it to push another dirt boxes when I need to kick it up a notch.

My friend has the soul food, which I have heard him use live, but not tried myself. Very impressed with it live though.

I to built this one a couple of months ago. Can´t comment on the similarity with a real Klon (since I never played one), but as a transparent treble boost it works great. My initial plan was to use it as a boost on my clean channel, but the pedal didn´t work that well with my Mad Professor Simble (which I use to blues up my tone). So instead I use it as boost on my dirty channel, works really good.

The assembling of the pedal was really fun as well, kinda like a hard core lego kit :)

I had a Klon. It worked good as a booster, but the more I turned up the gain, the bottom end would disappear. I think it's an overrated pedal, not worth more than about 400 dollars.

I have a pre order on a Rockett Audio Designs Archer which is supposed to be pretty dead on...and reasonably priced at $179. will report back after I get it which could take a while.

Just got an email from byoc. They are discontinuing the silver pony. So if you want one, get it now. Considering getting a 2nd one myself.
