Cab M/M+ custom EQ - High shelf or High Peak?

Hi all,

Very specific question here but there seems to be some two notes folks here who might be able to help.

I like to run a high cut at the end of my chain. I wanted to use the Cab M+ to do this. The CAB M custom EQ lists:
  • High: high shelf, 3 - 12 kHz, +/-20dB

Perfect! (yes I know a shelf isn't a cut but it serves my purposes).

However the Cab M+ manual says

  • High: peak, 3 - 12kHz, +/-20dB

OK, maybe they changed it (There is nothing in the release notes about a modified EQ, but I suppose it is a small tweak)

But then in November 2020 (after the M+ comes out) in This Thread @guillaume_pille says that it is a high shelf.

Does anyone know whether the Cab M+ custom EQ High setting is a peak or a shelf EQ?

Or am I overthinking this and a 12k peak cut with a 1.4 Q will actually do a similar job to a shelf at 8k for general purpose fizz reduction.

Hi @Plastercaster

Thanks for getting in touch. Ross from Two notes here. This is indeed a high shelf filter but actually both a peak or a high-shelf would accomplish what you need in this instance! Let us know how you get on and if you have any further questions, we're here to help!
