So I have decided to pull the trigger on a 5150 III mini. I am bringing my cab, and guitar to give it one last play before forking out cash for it. I am thinking about getting a different cab as well. There are way too many options, and the EVH 212, and 112 cabs are not kept in stock locally, so here are the options I am looking at, anyone have any thoughts??

1 - EVH 212 - cool cab, I don't like having my amp so low to the ground, and am not a big fan of the tilt back legs
2 - EVH 112 - cool cab, might put my scumback in there, can get another one for a cool mini stack look
3 - Avatar contemporary 212 with Lynchbacks - Can be used vertical same width as head gets the amp up off the ground
4 - EVH, or Mesa or ... 412 - If I find one used it will be within my budget
5 - Emperor 212 - Very nice wood finish, and dovetail joints, a bit pricey, but looks cool
6 - Saxon cabs - Canadian made, dovetail joints, their 212 would work vertical, and can be ordered with a slanted baffle.

I think you have to go vertical- be it a vertical 2x12, 4x12, or (2) 1x12s
I have an OS Mesa vertical 2x12 and it delivers. I wouldn't like having a regular 2x12 at my ankles. Tilt back works, but then where does the head go? go vertical

The EVH cab sounds great with the 100watt, I don't see why it wouldn't with the 50watt. I played the 100watt through all kinds of cabs but kept coming back to the EVH4x12.

That cab is high on my list, but a bit expensive. I haven't heard a single bad thing about those cabs...I might have to save some bucks, and bite the bullet.

Another option just came up. Two Mesa open back 112 cabs front loaded with C90s, they are a bit small at 18.5" wide vs 20" for the head, but the pair of cabs for $400 isn't too bad.

Avatar contemporary stage guitar monitor cab. It's ported.

I was looking at Voltage cabs, but I just don't gel with WGS speakers. I have tried a bunch, but there is something about them. I am leaning towards Avatar so the I can get some Lynchbacks ($19 a speaker upgrade).

Fair enough^^^ Voltage will do that too, but it would cost more than that. Avatar make good cabs so you'll be happy that decision.

So I tried a lot of cabs with the 5150 III 50 watt. I also put a deposit on one in black that is now on order, they only had white, and it doesn't do anything for me in white. I tried it with a bunch of different cabs, and was a bit surprised by what I found...

Note the room I was in was small, and bright so this might not be super accurate.

1 - 5150 III 212 - Brand new not broken in at all, I found it sounded pretty good, I would say second best, but it could get a bit dark, and just didn't seem to live up to the hype
2 - Traynor 412 with V30s - Pretty good, but almost too clear with this amp.
3 - Marshall 1960B with T75s - Surprisingly good, lots of low end, and a bit too much fizz on the high end that I couldn't seem to tame completely. I think that T75/V30s mix would be better.
4 - Traynor DHX212 with greenbacks - Didn't like it at all. I was very disappointed with this one. It is a new cab, so not broken in, but nothing like the scumback M75s I had a while ago.
5 - My Traynor DHX12 with scumback XH-75LHDC - Best cab overall. I opened the back vent, and had the low end thunk of the T75s, but without the fizz on the top end, and a nice clarity to it.

I didn't have time to try the EVH 412 in the room, but I tried it on the floor, and it sounded killer, but without trying it in the small bright room it wouldn't be a great comparison. When my amp comes in I am going to compare my 112 cab to the EVH 412. I am thinking that I my plan on getting a 212 loaded with lynchbacks might not happen. I might order one to try in my 112 but that greenback loaded 212 was a huge disappointment. I think that once broken in they should sound better, but that was only the second time I have played around with a greenback, and both times I was not impressed. But the M75s I had were amazing, so I am a bit confused.

So I still have another week until my amp should be in...But I am picking up a cab today!!! Mesa rectifier traditional 412 slant. This is the smaller rectifier 412 with some nicely broken in Mesa V30s. Now comes the dilemma I have always liked mixing speakers, so I have been looking around, and I am thinking about picking up either 2 greenbacks, or lynchbacks to go in the top 1/2 of the cab since those speakers are supposed to be killer with the 5150 III. I have also had a love/hate relationship with V30s. Sometimes I really like them, other times I can't stand them. I have even thought about picking up a couple of T75s, or H30s to mix with the V30s. Any thoughts?

My favorite cab ^^^
Don't do a speaker mix with it IMO. All my amps sound great through that cab.
Just leave it and revel in the goodness of those speakers which are the best version of the V30 out there.

Yup, most everybody seems to think the Mesa V30's are better.

Might as well give it go first.

So I have decided to keep all 4 Mesa V30s. I have a line on some used greenbacks. I can then swap in one greenback, and run the cab stereo to compare all V30s to V30 greenback mix. I will hold onto the other Mesa V30s though. Thanks for the heads up on that. I cranked that cab pretty good last night, and I can't wait for my 5150 III to come in. I will be playing my Peters through that cab tonight to see what that one sounds like. I like playing around with different speakers. I will probably pick up a Jensen Electric Lightning eventually to try in my 1x12.

I got a smokin deal on the cab...$450. It is in great shape!!!
