theres a guy in my hometown (Philly), offering to sell me on craigslist a Randall 412XL cab (metal grill) and 4 Celestion G12T-75 speakers. The cab is not wired and its def showing road ware, but he wants $200 for it? What do you guys think? Does anyone know how much it costs to refinish the outside of a cab? or how much of a pain it is to wire a cab (ive never done it b4)? I play hard rock/metal type stuff. Deal or No Deal?

Wiring, no problem at all, refinishing/retolexing the cab on the other hand is a huge job that you probably wouldn't want to get into. On the other hand 4 G12T-75's for $200 would definitely make this worth it, for me anyway.

Do it. $200 is a great deal for a loaded cab period. Maybe see if you can jew him down a few bucks too. why not. I have a Randall 412 XL metal grill. Its a great sounding solid cab. I love it. I have V30 X H30 in it.

That's a Solid cab and good speakers, I played Randall gear for 6 years. I'm near there and have been thinking about that same deal, but don't really need it so i haven't jumped on it. You should do it, even if it was for the speakers alone its a good deal. I recovered my Head and a 1x12 cab and it turned out decent and is worth it if you are handy. Cost would be around $75 for material.

thanks everyone for the input i think im gonna try and get the funds together and go look at it. :rock:

It only takes a few minutes to rewire them, so grab that cab it's a good deal.

I live right outside of Lancaster so im not super close 1.5-2hrs away. This was my first time doing Tolex so its not perfect but I think it turned out pretty good. A 4x12 shouldnt be too bad to handle the biggest pain is stripping off the original tolex and sanding the cab smooth.

I used a Gel based Glue that I brushed on, the spray adhesive can be messy especially for corners.
Look at how the corners are cut and folded, it will help you when you do it yourself.

I got my material here www.speakerbuildersupply.com if you get the TOLEX | builders special 5yd roll its cheaper. If you are using the glue try and do it when its not very humid

Also if you do just regular black tolex spray with Flat black spray paint all corners so if you cut material to short the wood wont show

1. = buy it now

2. = ask which Emis are inside, legend or better = buy it immediately

3. = ask which Celestions are inside. anything above seventy/80's = probably a great buy.

I only said the first two for sure because I was assuming the carvin probably had some kind of "custom made for our cabinet" celestions but according to carvin they don't use celestion speakers, so these were probably an upgrade at some point which might make them quality speakers. I'd say go for all 3!

But then again I'm a pretty big gear whore :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

As am I hahaha! I really can't afford all 3 I was thinking of the first 2 for price and to have a full stack lol. I have a Marshall MG Full stack that Im tryin to sell, if i sell that maybe all 3 lol :lol: :LOL:

I would still go with #1. Depending on the speakers #2 could be good as well. A friend of mine has 5 or 6 carvin 4x12 cabs with stock 100w celestions from the 90s and they sound pretty decent
