Hey guys I'm planning on purchasing one if these amps. I would rather get a birch cab instead of the ply wood evh cab. And to be honest I'm a little unsure on the evh speakers since I've always played v30 with previous 5150's I've owned. I think I'm planning on a nice 2x12 to go with it. Used Mesa are not hard to find or maybe zilla cabs. Really anything that's sounds good and matches the head color. For those of you buying one what cab do you plan on playing it with?

I also like V30's and 5150's. The 50W's have a resonance control if i remember correctly. I would get a roadking 2x12 mesa cabinet, or a bogner oversized 2x12 used if you can find one.

just my .02 :)

I really don't think I'd be overly concerned about the cab material. The EVH cabs are extremely nice and sound great.

I have the EVH 1x12 cab and also a Bogner Cube with an EVH GB. Honestly, I like the EVH cab better with the amp. Speaker has not broken in yet and I want to try a GB in there but either way both cabs sound good. Just different.

First things first. The 5150III is a totally different amp from your previous Peavey 5150's. So what didn't work well with the Peavey may work well with the EVH and vice versa. That being said, I love V30's with my 5150III 100w in a live setting (Mesa traditional cab) and like the EVH cab at home. I think the V30 just cuts a bit better in a live band mix.

Second, the EVH 4x12 cabs are awesome. Sonically and build quality. I haven't played the new 2x12 yet but if I were you I would try the EVH 2x12. It also has unique features that pairs it to the head. The cab has a mounting system (locks for the head and legs on the back of the cab) so you can tilt the amp/cab without the head falling off. I think this is a great feature since the 2x12 will sit much closer to the ground.

I recently had a custom cab made from Sour Mash, a vertical 2x12 that is the perfect width for this head, and very reasonable...great, solid construction...and I scored a couple G12EVH speakers to load it with...sounds fantastic with my other amps, I'm sure it will compliment the 5150III well too...

Are the EVH cabs made of something other than birch ply? Any part of them?

By the way, much is made of the fact that the EVH speakers are just rebadged English made Celestion Heritage G12Ms - the kind that retail for 200 a piece.

But the EVH speakers can be bought individually for the same price as the Chinese Celestions. And it doesn't make a lot of sense that Fender EVH is selling this full of four $200 speakers for just 999. If you look at Fender custom shop teles, strats, and handwired amps, you see Fender doesn't just give stuff away.

Something doesn't add up, by my logic. But everyone says these cabs sound great, and they are already taking their place in studios as a go to cab, so maybe that's all we need to know.

I'm loving my evh 50 on top of my genz benz g-flex 2x12

I tried the EVH 2x12 with my EVH 5153 mini and did not like it with the Heritage speakers. I soon realized that it sounded much better (at least for my taste) with my Port City 2x12 Wave cab with V30's. Then again, that cab sounds good with about anything in my experience.

I agree. Mine sounds killer and I'm going to buy the 2-12 also just to save my back. I love the EVH speakers too, I havent had the H30 but Victom5150 says they sound great with the amp too.

I have the EVH 2x12 and it's fantastic. Very well built and the tilt back feature is really cool.
The 2x12 doesn't have Hertiages btw, the speakers are the G12H 70th Anniversary.

This. When I bought my 100 watt head, I tried the EVH 4x12 and thought it sounded great. But then I plugged into a Vintage 30 loaded cab sitting next to it and it was like someone turned up the amp. The V 30's sound more sensitive to me (and have a higher wattage rating) vs. the EVH cab. So since I already had 2 Vintage 30 loaded cabs, I passed on the EVH cab.

I have played the EVH 50 watt through...

EVH 4x12
EVH 2x12
Mesa Rectifier 2x12 V30's

The EVH 4x12 sounds the best to my ears.

To me, and it's just my opinion, these amps sound best matched with the cabs. I've used a Mesa Recto cab with V30's for the past year or so for smaller shows and it has sounded great. No complaints. But, I just got the black 50 watt with matching 2x12 cab and the ivory 2x12 cab. I gigged over the weekend with my 100 watt and the matching 2x12 and it just smoked the Mesa. It just sounded fuller and more rounded. It literally sounded just like the my EVH 4x12's. Since everybody's ears and taste are different I would try to find a store or a buddy close to try them out or purchase from somewhere with a good return policy in case you don't like what you get. The owners manual for the cab says it's "premium 5/8" Birch Ply construction for resonant tone. Celestion G12H 30W speakers for full bottom end and rich highs" Take it for what it's worth. As mentioned already, the tilt back feature with the 50 watt and 2x12 is freaking awesome. I've gotta try to figure out someway to incorporate it with the 100 watt as well.
