Quick question about cabinets, I'm currently running my Herbert through a Mesa 3/4s back 2x12 cabinet which sounds pretty damned good to me (it's the only cabinet I've ever heard the Herbert through in person), but looks ridiculous as the cabinet is a couple of inches thinner than the Herbert, so the Herbert's feet hang over the edges. Still, you play through what you can, and I had the cabinet long before I had the Herbert, so for now, it's doing the job... At this point I have an opportunity to get a pretty good deal on a Marshall 4x10 cabinet locally, but I'd like to have an idea of what I can expect in terms of sound difference in going from a 2x12 to a 4x10. Clearly I'll try before I buy, but I don't want to lug all my gear around town to try it out if I know in advance this is really not what I'm looking for.

Long term I'm hoping to save up some money and get myself either a Diezel or a Mills 4x12 cab, but I've got a baby on the way, so I'm likely looking at a couple of years before I will be able to set that kind of money aside and the interim solution is tempting... Any input you guys have would be much appreciated.

personally id avoid the marshall cab with herbie i dont think the 10 inch speakers could handle the low end that herbie produces!!

and overall marshall cabs are not that well made imho!

id stick with the mesa cab or if you can get a diezel cab they really are night and day difference!

ive done the same with various diezel amps trying different brand cabs and nothing compares to what ive heard from the herbert vh4 and hagen through a diezel cab.
I was at the london guitar show last year and couldnt believe how different the vh4 and herbert sounded through the newer designed cabs and it was a great sound.
im ordering a diezel cab to go with my hagen as soon as my mind is made up whether i get a 2x12 or 4x12!

Who cares what it looks like. You have just answered your own question. If you want to focus on looks, then just purchase a Diezel cab to marry with your Herbert (can't go wrong there...) - Hello! :)

Closed back would really tap into the OOOMPH of the herbert IMHO

Clearly my reasons aren't purely aesthetic, but the fact that the head is so much bigger than the cab is a minor annoyance. Though I do like the sound of my 3/4s cab, I feel like it doesn't do a head of this caliber justice, that's why I've been on the prowl for a deal on a quality 4x12 cab. Looks like I'll have to continue stashing away my pennies 'til I can afford the Mills or Diezel 4x12 or wait for a great deal to come up. In my head I have sort of a ranking of cabs I've created to pair with the Herbert, can you guys comment on the list and tell me if there is anything I should add/remove?

Top tier: Diezel, Mills
Second tier: Bogner, Splawn
Third tier: Mesa, Marshall
