Started experimenting with different cables & plugs.

What instrument cables & plugs are you using?
What effects cables & plugs are you using?
What speaker cables & plugs are you using?

I've been using these http://www.purplecables.com/ for several years now for: guitar to amp, effects loop, and amp to speaker. If tonal transparency is your delight I think you'll be very pleased with these. For those local to Detroit you can demo them at Berkley Music Co. in Berkley (The new Egnater headquarters!).

Peace,

Waldon

canare gs4 and canare gs6.

I like the sound of both in for fx or instrument. depends on the width.

Plugs = whatever. Usually the cheapest Neutrik.

speaker = redco or soundrunner, connector = the huge one that fits huge wire.

Instrument cable: None, I use wireless
FX loop cables: Lava cables solderless kit.
Speaker cable: No idea. I bought 2 cables like 4-5 years ago when I started playing electric and I've been using it ever since.

This reminds me of a funny story... So at NAMM, me, Matt, and Eric were at the Monster booth. And the Monster Cable rep comes over to me, guns blazing, completely harassing me with ridiculous questions.

Rep: What kind of amp do you play?

Me: Uh, I've got an Egnater rig.

Rep: how much was your rig?

Me: Um, probably $3K total, about.

Rep: What cable do you use?

Me: Well, I make my own out of Neutrik connectors and Canare Cable.

Rep: (condescendingly) Oh, that's cool. So you're a cable expert huh? So if you drove a Ferrari, would you make your own tires?

WTF!

your response should have been something like:

"no, there are plenty of broken monster cables waiting to be recycled into tires"

I have gs6 cable for my guitar to pedal board-to amp. Do you find them a little on the mellow side?

compared to what???

You know, I never bought into this whole "premium cable" business until about 3 years ago when one of the "inexpensive" Hosa
cables I had been using died, and I had a Monster Cable laying around, so I plugged it in, and I immediately notice an improvement. I really couldn't believe the difference - Since then, I either buy Monster or Mogami, or I make my own from Canare and Neutrik like Nick....for my pedalboard, I used George L's.

As for Nick's experience - Dude, that's totally ridiculous....I do believe the voodoo of "good cables", but I do not believe for one minute that Monster has an exclusive technology on how to make a "superior" cables compared to George L's, Mogami, Lava, etc.

For recording, I'm using George L's and Monster. For live, I'm using George L's and Spectraflex... YMMV

I use George L's...Voodoo Amps speaker cables and instrument cables...cables made by Klark on this board for my rack...and mogami cables.

Sounds like a similar realization Nick had w/ pickups....meaning Duncan vs MCP. Once he pu those MCP Afwayus in his guitar...he was like holy sh!t...why didn't I try these sooner! :)

Compared to most cable like George L's, Evidence ect. I like a little high end roll off personally. That's why I use Canare.

George L's. The only thing I don't like about them is the jacket's pretty stiff.

The correct answer to the last questions is - YES, I would want complete control of how much high end is in the screech when I peel out for a dead stop.
