Yes they do sound different. I own both. The standard has a bigger bottom. You can feel the difference standing next to them. Also the lower mids are very slightly more pronounced - if I had to split hairs. But I wouldnt say it makes the std "fatter" Also the standard is more focused (lazor beam) than the trad. As to what one I like best? Flavor of the month.....But Im currently using a randall xlt over the both of them if that tells you anything

I prefer the traditional to the standard. Just personal taste, they are both good.

Isn't the Traditional formerly known as the Stiletto? If it is, this clip shows the difference:

I have a 1x12 Stiletto I am most happy with.

I like the Standard. It ends up on many recordings at my studio.

I'm standard fan as well. The Traditional sounded kind of boxy to me.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go another direction and am picking up a Blackstar Blackfire 412. It's larger, by a good bit, than the Standard Rectifier. Has greater depth as well. Looking forward to hearing what kind of brootz will result.

According to the specs, it looks to be about the same as a standard recto cab. Roughly 30x32x14.

The mesa standard is actually a bit bigger, by a small amount.

Mesa is 30.125"x32.875"x14.25"

Blackstar is 29.7"x32.9"x14.0"

Hmmmm, the info on Sweetwater shows:

37.99" H
18.93" D
35.19" W

Unless these are the dimensions of the box it's being shipped in?

I'd say those are shipping dimensions. The blackstar website you linked to had the dimensions in the product manual.

I cant see anyone making a 38x35x19 4x12

I've seen a blackstar series one cab in person and it looked about the size of a mesa std oversized. The gus g cab is basically the same thing and has the same dimensions.

Haha! That would be a huge cab! I can see Emperor making a cab that size, though. Strange that they would report shipping dimensions and not the actual dimensions of the cab.

I like both and own the Trad.
FWIW, these two cabs will sound and perform differently than the video shows. Once you get the volume up more the speakers start interacting with the box more and the sound opens up. Trad. doesn't sound boxy at normal jam levels, and the Standard handles the lows very well and pushes air nicely.
