So I have the chance to get this axe. The guy is from Germany - 5 star feedback - and was kind enough to send me videos and stuff but I did notice that there was no serial number on the neck plate. He claims he bought it from a shop in the US some 30 years ago for 1200 USD and it never occurred to him that it might not be an all original Jackson USA strat. The neck seems to be original, tho it comes with a repair, but the body I am sure it ain't. The neck plate is all black. He seemed really sad when I told him that no way this is an all original Jackson USA and he agreed to let it go for 500. What do you guyz think?

Tough call, at least I wouldn´t pay any more than that. Granted, $500 doesn´t get you as much as it did just a few years ago, but I just don´t see a lot of face value in that guitar. The neck is american and probably feels nice but is busted and repaired, the body is unknown, the Spyder is fine but not a desirable unit... all in all it might be a good guitar for the money but it is a tough sell.

I noticed it comes with the "TM' headstock logo - I remember correctly these were supposed to be pre 1987...

That´s entirely possible, I can´t remember hearing much about the logos over the years. But it doesn´t really change anything in my book, the San Dimas to Ontario thing is way overblown and the break negates such fine detail.

I think I will pull the trigger - 500 is not a bad deal.

Yeah, not a bad deal but not a good deal either. Barring the neck, I probably wouldn´t go out of my way to buy the other parts for a couple of hundred, but viewed as a guitar it might add up.

The body could be a BC Rich - platinum series or maybe a Charvel Jackson DK-065-SSH ?

$500 is a good deal for a vintage USA Jackson/Charvel neck, the crack looks to be repaired correctly. Then the body is free; it might even be a good vintage piece of wood. Not a model series or USA Jackson/Charvel though, but for 500 it's worth a shot Imo.

Definitely looks like a BC Rich ST-III body but the majority of them had the three mini toggle switches instead of a blade. Interesting
yeah this is why it looks weird...

Could anyone read the number correctly? 7826? There is an "0' but this is just a circle I think

ly? Is it

Yeah, that would be a typical work order number. I think I remember hearing somewhere years and years ago that the old rule of thumb is that the move from San Dimas happened around number 8000, so I guess that time frame 1986-87 is a pretty good guess.
