Has anyone had the chance to compare these 2 heads side by side or at an amp shootout yet? Now if any of you guys had a chance to have either one of these amps, based off the fact that you dont already own either one... which one one would you buy, a stock CCV or a Meathead, and why??? Ready, set, begin...

Kurtstuff has had both before, maybe he'll chime in.

Ive tried both and they are both great at what they do. More importantly I don't think that you could compare the two because one is a 2 channel amp and the other is 6 channel amp.

psychodave has played both. Gainfreak has played the Meathead and I think he might have played a CCV as well. I'd venture to say Kurtstuff is probably the only one who has played them side-by-side, but then again he had his CCV in the classifieds so he might have sold it before the Meathead arrived. There just aren't enough of each amp out at this point to get many guys who have spent quality time with each, much less having both in the same room, but these are the cats I know of that could give you an idea of the difference between the two.

LOL :D

I have tried them both and I love them both! Just different animals!
I did not get to try them side by side but now that Psychodave has a CCV, I will be able to do so at a future ampfest We are having later this month .

Man two totally different animals unless you nail up the gain channel and forget the rest.

LAter this month we will have those side by side

I think the Bones and the CCV are more comparable. Although the Bones is only a single channel amp, it seems to be capable of several sounds.

fortin clips strike me as more saturated ala cameron ccm but i've only played the camerons.

both sound excellent

I own a Bones and a CCV. I had Mike do some custom options on my bones and he made it higher gain than a standard model. They are 2 totally different amps. They are both great amps but this is not a fair comparison. They each do what they were built to do incredibly. I wont be selling either one of them.

I know that they both sound different and both sound great... but, I wish someone could chime in on which one is better suited for them and why... I cant expect to get what I want out of this thread, but if you could pair these flagship amps of both of their makers against each other and tell the player to choose only one if they could, which one would they choose... is all that Im trying to get at... which one would the user choose and why. I know, I know... apples to oranges, but let this thread ride it out and hopefully someone besides me can get some more insight that cant otherwise get to hear either one of these amps. BTW I hate online recordings of amps... I dont think they accurately portray the amps true sound, so links to clips of either one of the amps are worthless IMO.

Like others have said, two totally different animals. If I could only have one amp for the rest of my life, I would have to go with the Meathead since I has 6 channels and does everything. It is obvious that I love the CCV, but I don't think it covers as much as the Meathead...and it shouldn't since it is only two channels.

Maybe the next thread should compare apples to apples...CCV vs the Natas. :D

CCV vs Natas is also not a good comparison. Won't the Natas excel at all out speed metal
with mega power? Supposed to be nothin' vintage about it. The Natas will also have a
useable clean channel for blackface type cleans.
I'd say a two channel loaded up Cali mod vs CCV would be a good dogfight.

They are both very flexable tone wise. The Bones will get you into the more modern realm of things. I wish I could give you a straight answere saying "dude this is the one to buy" but I cant. I wish there were one head out there that did everything I wanted it to do. That way I wouldnt own 5 heads. Hell, it would be a lot cheaper. Like I said they are both great amps.

I would say if you are into the 80's mid range saturation go with the CCV. The CCV will cover a lot of ground and is capable of getting heavy. It does have some of the best bottom end I have ever heard in any amp. The Bones is not as saturated and will cover newer metal. I have 2 Fortin amps and another on the way. The Bones has incredible note definition and clarity. Its just so hard to compare the 2. Maybe it would be easier if you explain what you are looking for tone wise.

I was thinking the same thing. I wish someone would make a comparison, even if it's the Bones to the CCV :dunno: The Bones is supposed to be able to pull off all sorts of cleans as well so the the 2 channel argument doesnt cut it for me. I'd like to know in what ways they are similar, different, and what stands out about each one, and I also think that's what you're getting at

FWIW Kurt said in a thread a week or so ago he liked the Meathead over any of the 7 Camerons that he's owned ;)

So does the CCV pull out all sorts of cleans?

I don't know, I've never played one  . I was saying that there was talk of not comparing the 2 because the Bones only has one channel and the CCV has 2.

Motorpud, I just realized you have a Meathead in transit, congrats!!!!
I have a revolcanized Twin Jet that Fortin did and let me tell ya, he knows
what the heavy players want and need. For me he's the first dude ta' hit the
hammer right on the nail right to the stud in one strike

If you get the Bones wired up to work with the amp gizmo it is almost like a 3 channel foot switchable head. Yea the cleans wond be fenderish, but I get a great Jake E Lee type of clean tone out of it. With the L/M/H voicing options on the Bones it is very flexable. You go from a good clean to plexi to HG all with a stomp of your foot. I think I was one of the first to buy the Bones and I have been telling everyone that asks me that Fortin is incredible. He has a great ear for tone and also a great player. I guess thats why I own 3 of his amps.
